We booked Sol y Lago hostel for two nights for our stay in Copacabana, but unfortunately after climbing up the hill from the centre of town to check in, there was no one there for around 15 minutes, and no way to let anyone know we had arrived. ||||Once someone had actually found us to check in, we were told that they had no rooms and our booking on Booking.com didn’t mean anything. The guy there had said the owner was on holiday at the time, and he had no access to the bookings on Booking.com. We can appreciate that this was not his fault, however we felt that anyone who was left in charge should have access to all necessary tools needed for potential customers. We checked online and Booking.com said there were still rooms available, so we presume we weren’t the only ones disappointed. ||||After this, we were told that there may be a hostel down the road which had some space, but after checking online we saw that the Wifi was intermittent and we needed it for work. Other than this, we were not offered any compensation, especially now that the other hostels we to book instead were much more expensive as we were having to book last minute. After contacting the owner about this problem we were ignored. Overall, pretty shoddy customer service and be wary when booking online...
Read moreI checked into Hostal Sol y Lago and paid by card as soon as I got there which included the 10% tax in the price.
Once paid and checked the conversion (which I admit I should have done so then and there) I realised that they had overcharged me 65 Bolivian.
The price on booking.com, the exact exchange rate and price they charged were different. The hostel charges their own exchange rate and not the one published daily online. Booking.com includes a passage where you will pay what the exchange rate is that day, not one set by the Hostal.
Major rip off!!!! The hostel openly accepts card but when it came to provide a refund as we could not come to a resolution their machine conveniently didn’t work.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND CHECK BEFORE YOU PAY! Very good at what they do and would not recommend this...

Hammers pounding away all day were constant soundtrack to my two day visit. Would I stay here again? No. Too far from center and services. Few taxis available... and the...
