There are many hotels that are quickly forgotten because they look the same and don't give you a sense of where you are in the world. And then there are the hotels that you'll always remember and want to return to because they hold something unique and tell a story. ||It doesn't have to have anything to do with stars. But there are plenty of them at the Alfonisna in Santa Cruz, Bolivia. The walls everywhere are stylishly plastered with movie stars. My wife and I shared a room with Steven Spielberg, Challie Chaplin and Woody Allen, among others.||As for stars, this unique boutique hotel deserves five stars for its consistently rustic coziness, for the hundreds of little details where you discover new ones every day, and for the extraordinary service you'll find throughout the hotel, where the staff do everything to make you feel at home.
