I stayed here for two nights over the Easter bank holiday weekend. Below are just a few of the reasons I wouldn’t recommend anyone to stay in this hotel:||1) Noise, noise, noise. If you like being woken up in the night or first thing in the morning - this place is for you. If you like sleeping - this isn’t your spot. Hard banging doors of other rooms and bar music outside is constant.||2) Hygiene - the rude receptionist (see comments on staff below) had a bad cold, was sneezing constantly and blowing her nose. She went into the breakfast area, grabbed a coffee, stirred in some sugar, licked the spoon clean and returned it to the clean table laid for guests. I’m not sure I’ve EVER see this type of absurd behaviour from someone carrying a flu level cold.||3) Rude unhelpful staff - breakfast starts at 8am. We arrived at reception 7.45am (as we had an early transfer) to find breakfast fully laid out ready to go. GREAT - a snack before our long journey. Sadly - we were told we couldn’t touch breakfast for 15 minutes. Ummm - why? Incredibly unhelpful. ||4) Reception and check-out - We waited 30 minutes for the receptionist to come and check us out and take our payment. While bookings.com states Visa / MasterCard is accepted (as it is everywhere in Brazil), this hotel makes card payment near impossible. After finding the card machine (that I spotted) the receptionist took 10 minutes to put a payment through, blamed our card, then finally after pressing Visa instead of MasterCard as the payment type, the transaction mysteriously processed.... what a painful near 50 minute check-out experience.||Note - the man who was there in the evenings is a nice guy. It is just the kitchen lady and reception lady that have attitude problems and have missed their hygiene...
Read moreThis is a very simple place so expectations should be set accordingly. It's OK for a short stay but probably not for anything beyond a few days.||||The location (in the newer part of town) is second to none. Just about everything is only a few minutes walk away. ||||The room was basic but adequate enough for our 2 night stay. The bed (described as queen size but in fact 2 single beds put together) was rather hard and not great for those of us with back issues. The bathroom was similarly basic but functional. Water pressure in the shower was very ordinary (although in fairness I understand the town has significant water and sewerage issues). Using the air con has a R$10 per night surcharge - though we found the overhead fan a reasonable, if noisy, alternative. The TV offered a very limited choice of channels, with no English language ones. The safe required a key to be provided from reception but in our case was unusable because (apparently) there are insufficient keys available.||||Breakfast could best be described as simple South American continental. Very limited choices but adequate enough. Coffee and cake provided in the late afternoon to all guests was a...
Read moreWe stayed 2 nights and as soon as we checked in, I wanted to ask about getting a refund and checking out early. ||The room was dark and dingy. The bathroom was the same and the whole place looked like it needed serious upgrading.||The woman on the front desk was disinterested and not particularly helpful. The Wi-Fi also didn't work when we checked in. ||The breakfast was as basic as the accommodation. The shower was awful, the water didn't get hot so for three days, we had lukewarm showers. Overall we didn't feel this deserved the rating it claims to have, and would not have chosen or recommended this guesthouse. It's overpriced for what it offers.||The only plus side is that is well located and easy walking distance from the bus station and old town. Also the...
