We traveled as a couple but booked a triple room, as this room was depicted as spacious with wood beam ceilings and a balcony on Expedia’s photos. It cost extra for the triple, but we wanted a beautiful, comfortable room. ||Upon check-in, the hotel staff led us to a very small standard double room. I looked back at the photo from the confirmation email, and showed the staff member. We waited for 20 minutes while he made calls, and tried to communicate with us via google translate. He then showed us a triple room, yet it had the same low ceilings and no balcony. He said the room we booked wasn't available. So, we went with the double room since it at least had a balcony. ||The staff member told us he would try to get a refund as the price for a standard double was significantly lower. He told us to wait in the room for his phone call. We waited for an hour in the room with no phone call, and finally decided to head out to enjoy our first day on vacation. When we passed the front desk it was a completely different person who was not aware of our story. So we spent another hour explaining (again through google translate) and he offered us a 30 minute massage, which we didn't want. We just wanted a comfortable room for our stay. He said there was nothing they could do for us and to contact Expedia. ||||The room was small, the bathroom was very beat up, the bed was not comfortable, and the air conditioning barely cooled the room. There was not one friendly staff member, and no one spoke English. Needless to say, we wouldn't...
Read moreI booked Villa Mercedes through Booking.com, it looked and sounded great - how deceiving!!! We arrived at the Villa Mercedes mid-afternoon to find a receptionist that spoke little English, luckily our driver, a friend of a friend could interpret for us. We had requested two rooms near each other, the receptionist obviously realised this was not appropriate as she took one look at us, one in our 70's the other 80's, and told us that one room was on the first floor and the other on the third floor and there was no lift. Not only was there no lift but the stairs are on the outside of the building with no handrail and it is dark by 6pm! She said she could see the rooms were not suitable and would phone the other Pousadas in the chain to see if they had a suitable, we said even one twin bed room would do, but all were full. While we were waiting we asked for some water, we had to ask three times and after 30 mins it arrived. We were told that if we did not take the rooms we would be charged anyway as that was the hotel policy. I said I did not feel it was safe for us and the receptionist agreed but said that was all they had - take it or leave it. We decided to leave it, even though we were then left without accommodation in Buzios. I was later was told that the hotel reported us as failing to show up. I would suggest that they are honest in their description of the pousada and mention that there are a lot of stairs and no lift.I would not recommend this hotel for anyone expecting good service or...
