I cannot, in good conscience, recommend to anyone seeking a pleasant stay in Sao Luis. Our one-night experience was marred by serious health and hygiene concerns.
Upon entering our room, a damp, musty smell permeated the air, and we quickly discovered visible mold growth in various corners. This is unacceptable, especially considering the potential health risks associated with mold exposure.
To make matters worse, the room was infested with cockroaches. We spent the night shifting sleeping positions to avoid these unwanted guests, making it impossible to get a decent night's rest.
We informed the hotel owner about these issues, hoping for a resolution However, we were met with indifference and no offer of compensation. This complete lack of concern for guest well-being is deeply disappointing.
While the hotel's location in the historic center is convenient, it cannot make up for the appalling conditions we encountered. I urge travelers to consider other options in Sao Luis to avoid a similar,...
Read moreThis is a very lovely Pousada. The owner Franck has restored it with the utmost care. Everywhere you can see that he has kept the original things such as floors, furniture, decoration, beds etc. and has integrated it into a comfortable living environment. This way he has been keeping the heritage of Sao Luis in a very nice way and the historic part of your vacation already starts in Casa Lavinia.
Franck, the owner, is a super host and has taken care of me - inspite of my one million questions - in a very nice and patient manner, thanks for this.
The two negative reviews below I do not understand, I have been looking for mold spots as well as cockroaches everywhere, did not find a single one! Everything is mint clean. I believe the travelers mentioned below are the ALL INCLUSIVE tourists that have been the first time to such a beautiful house.
Next time in Sao Luis I will stay there again, so much...
Read moreWe stayed for just one Sunday night in a family room in the heart of the old city of Sao Luis. Lots of buildings in a bad condition, but the atmosphere of the city centre at weekends in the evening/at night is definitely worth a visit. Music everywhere and lots of local people in the streets. It´s a bit apart from the usual touristic spots in Brazil. We felt safe but anything can happen in Brazil. We didn´t visit the waterfront/beach in the other part of the city.||Accomodation was very good, central, clean, quiet and safe. Though days and nights were hot, the rooms were fine without using the ceiling fans. Mosquito nets for each bed. Helpful owner who can organise a comfortable taxi to Barreirinhas and the following boat trip to Atins at a reasonable price....
