Hotel Carícia — Hotel in Região Geográfica Imediata do Rio de Janeiro

my wife and i stayed here during carnival because it was a million times cheaper than staying in downtown Rio and it did not have any annoying 7 minimum night stay like most of the other hotels and hostels we looked at. although this is also an hourly motel, there were plenty of other tourists staying there for multiple nights for carnival, but we were the only people at the Madeireira Carnaval block party (it was soooo cool if you like alternative travel and meeting locals).||||Good:||* WiFi had strong signal in our room and had repeaters on each floor.||* breakfast was simple but all you can eat ham/cheese/rolls/fruit smoothies/coffee/milk and sometimes fresh fruit (we stayed 4 nights)||* staff is friendly ||* aircon worked ||* close to a train station stop (Madeireira)||* close to many busses, including the 355 which goes through Central Station and the long distance bus station (Rodoviária) ||* on the same block as a samba school||* free porn channels!||* mirrors on the wall and the ceiling :)||||Bad:||* only one (and a half) staff spoke english, but what can you expect for being out in the suburbs. ||* aircon was an old model with manual switches that were removed, so couldn't adjust temperature||* mattress and pillow had a plastic covering under the sheets so it was a bit uncomfortable since i get hot when i sleep||* neighborhood is not for the faint of heart ||* i emailed the hotel for directions via public transport and they were really bad... we walked around for ages looking for it. so i'm adding a picture and some details to make it easier for potential visitors:||||directions:||1. from Rodoviária: get on the 355 towards Madeireira, the terminus of this bus is at Madeireira Shopping mall and the motel is only down the street.||2. from Madeireira Train station: look for platform 3E, you should see a funny happy star on a building behind platform 3E with the words "Ki-Lojao" . walk out of the exit that goes over platform 3E and then turn hard left on that street and walk parallel to the tracks towards the hotel. you can actually see Motel Caricia in my picture. if you go out of the train station and you see the bus terminal, that is the wrong side. ||3. from the Airport: take the 922 (towards Tubiacanga), Get off at Aviation Hall (ask info center at the airport what this is called in portugese). walk across the street and take the 910 (towards BANANAL / MADUREIRA SHOPPING). the terminus of this bus is at the Madeireira Train station listed in #1, so go up and over the tracks and follow directions in...

The staff here know no English. Everything is google translate. They have wifi but sometimes it doesn't work in the mornings. Good showers and it's clean. They should invest in a Hoover.||It was a rip off for two weeks but it was because of the World Cup. ||Now breakfast was the most irritating thing. We came down and we would always have to wait to be served. They had a self serving platter of ham an cheese, biscuits and crackers, at the start of our holiday but then they took that away and the kitchen waiters are idiots in taking orders. ||There is a train not far from the hotel but one night we were warned that thieves could rob us on the train coming back to the hotel. So every afternoon around 3 we have to leave Copacabana etc because it took about an 1hr to get home. Tickets are 4 something reais. ||||Madureira has plenty of shops, from food self catering which I highly recommend and clothe shops which are cheaper than in the inner city. Also has a shopping mall.||||Honestly, this should be your last resort in booking a room in this hotel. The area is dangerous because it's in the outskirts of the town and you're being stared at every time on the train. Breakfast is always the same and disgusting to eat that by now. No eggs. ||||Only book your hotel in Copacabana or near it. Because there is more security in this area. Next time I will be more aware where to book my hotel because going on a family holiday in this place is not prospect to think of. With all due respect for all the rating members.....how can this hotel have a 4 star overall rating?||||Me and another two friends had no choice but to book there because there were no other options, prices of accommodation in Rio during the World Cup were outrageous high and we needed 3 rooms. That was on end of June.||||First the GOOD. ||Location is okay, in Madeira, but very far from the city. Steps to shopping mall and busy area, good for shopping and cheap dining. Pretty safe during the day, but we did not wonder around after 9 pm. There is parking at the motel, no problems there, but very tied spots.||||The BAD....||Staff spoke no English, I mean nobody in the whole hotel. Not even Google translate wouldn't do it. They are rude and careless. We asked for a very early wake up call ..never happened. We asked for the rooms to be cleaned....that didnt happen either.||There is a club/bar on the second floor. Terrible and horrifying noise, beyond what you would call "music", extremely loud up to 3:00 am.||We all complained...they didnt care. One of us went to check whats going on, he said there was a club packed with underage prostitute. During the night there are prostitutes jaywalking right in front of the motel, we didnt care, we only cared for the sleep and not even my ear plugs didnt help.||||The room is not bad, for the money that is. But you have to ask (and pray) for new towels and room cleaning. We were there 4 nights and couldnt wait for that to end.||||If I would ever go back in there? Not even if I stay for free in their...
