Review of Radisson Hotel, Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro
On December 14, I arrived at the Radisson Hotel in Rio de Janeiro with my family. We had booked a suite with two separate bedrooms and two double beds for four people back in September. However, at the reception desk, we were offered a one-bedroom room with one double bed and one single bed. The receptionist, Heitor Silvano di Paula, informed us that no other rooms were available.
I pointed out that it was not my problem that the prepaid room was unavailable. To this, Heitor Silvano di Paula, representing the hotel, replied that it was not her problem either. Along with another employee (whose name I unfortunately do not remember), they spent about 10 minutes trying to convince us that a two-bedroom suite was the same as a regular room with two double beds. After much debate, we were finally offered another room, a two-bedroom suite, but it was noisy and unsuitable for sleeping. We were then moved to a third room, where one of the toilets was not working, and both rooms had ants.
After yet another complaint to the reception desk, we were offered a fourth option consisting of two rooms (1231 and 1233), where we ultimately stayed. While these rooms did not have ants, there were still significant issues. In 1231, there was a strong, unpleasant smell coming from the air conditioner, reminiscent of cat urine. Additionally, the windows in both rooms could only be opened, and it was impossible to lock them securely. This is extremely unsafe, considering that both rooms were on the 12th floor. Furthermore, the overall cleanliness of the rooms was unsatisfactory.
The disappointments did not end there. During our two-week stay, the rooftop pool was never cleaned. Hair and debris constantly floated in the water, which is entirely unacceptable for a four-star hotel.
On December 24, we returned to our rooms at around 7:30 PM after spending the entire day outside the hotel. We discovered that the rooms had not been cleaned. The floors were dirty, and the overall condition of the rooms was unacceptable. I once again approached the reception desk, where Heitor Silvano di Paula assured me that someone would be sent to address the issue. However, the cleaning only began late in the evening, forcing my 6-year-old son to sleep in the bar on the hotel’s rooftop, as cleaning was ongoing in both of our rooms. This was not only inconvenient but absolutely unacceptable.
Staying at the Radisson Hotel in Barra da Tijuca was a huge mistake. Instead of the high-quality and comfortable vacation we had anticipated, we encountered dirty rooms, rude staff, and terrible service. Our Christmas Eve, which we had planned to spend in a cozy family atmosphere, was ruined.
I would never recommend this hotel to my friends and will do everything to avoid similar disappointments in the future.
Read moreWell, lots of small and big issue (I rarely leave reviews, so for me to do this, trust me - it was BAD.
Let’s start with the check in. I was at the hotel by 2pm and there was an error with my booking and I couldn’t get into the room until 2.40pm. I specified travel with pet when I booked and when I got here they want we to charge me R$68 per night which I refused to pay and proved there and then that I had selected travelling f with pets and nowhere upon booking it said there would be an extra fee for that (I’m an experienced holiday maker, so I’m always aware for extra feee).
The gym is small, pretty below standards for a Radisson.
They did bring two bowls for the dog which was a nice touch.
There was a lot of dust on the lamps and bulbs.
But the worst was the service - reception. Simply does not answer the phone and twice I had to come for down for a glass of ice and to request help and a trolley for the bags which I was told (now get ready for it) that I could have the trolley but NO help was available but that I’m a strong lady and I could do it myself!!!! (I am an athlete and I have an athletic body but this is disgusting to hear. I then replied that it didn’t matter, that I’m a lady and a paying customer. I’m writing this review as I stand in a very lengthy queue to check out and I’m honestly nearly crying. I will not come back and I am appalled that I had to pay to deal with all of that.
The location is good. Close to Barra Shopping, the bosque and beach. Also close to restaurants and bars (about 5 minutes by car).
Good breakfast (not exceptional!) cakes and pastries were stale and service really slow (I had to chase up an...
Read moreI had the absolute WORST experience at this Radisson location! I arrived at 9:30 AM hoping for an early check-in, only to be told that it wasn’t available. When I returned at 2:00 PM as instructed, my room still wasn’t ready. The front desk offered meal vouchers and asked me to wait another 30 minutes. I went to the restaurant and waited the full half hour—yet no one came to assist me.
After all that waiting (1.5 hrs AFTER checkin time) they finally “threw me” into a room that was far from acceptable. Not only was it unprepared, but it was also infested with tiny ants. When I raised my concerns, I was told there were no alternative rooms available. To top it all off, at the end of my night, I found a brief note from the front desk apologizing for the inconvenience—a note that did nothing to justify being stuck in an ant-infested room or the fact that I missed the time to get tickets for the match i came to Rio to see.
The only positive from my stay was Thyessa, the bartender at the pool. She had amazing energy, great vibes, and was truly the only bright spot in this entire experience. She also spoke English, which was a plus in Brazil!
I chose Radisson based on wonderful past experiences in Dakar and Stockholm, but after this debacle, I won’t be returning. Spending money should guarantee quality service, not endless waiting, an unclean room, and an apology note that fails to make up for lost time and ruined plans. I had people tell me they’ve had better experiences at hostels.
