First off I need to emphasize that I NEVER write reviews. Good or bad. However o felt compelled to write one after staying here and also after reading the previous reviews. ||We (my husband and 23yr old son and I ) originally booked a hotel in Copacabana beach but days before the trip we saw on their website that their hotel including the rooftop bar was being renovated and will not be in service. Thank God we checked since that is the main reason we booked this hotel. So we needed a plan B and that ended up being Wyndham Rio Barra. Despite the bad reviews, we had to make a decision so we booked it and I am SOOOO glad that we did. We paid for the hotel in advance since I researched there are sometimes issues with book and pay later reservations…especially through third parties like Expedia.||The day before leaving from NY we received an email confirmation and also a separate message from the hotel suggesting a car service who works for the hotel. I immediately contacted them and received a reply within 30 min. We had our airport transfers confirmed as well. This squashed my first concern regarding the previous posts that our room would not be available.||We arrived in Rio at 7am and was met by the airport transfer and was at the hotel by 8:30. It is about a 40 min drive from GiG airport. Once we arrived we were immediately and graciously greeted by the staff. We went to the front test to just let them know we were there. They advise us (which we already knew) that our room was not ready and to come back at 3pm. Again this was not a surprise. They held our luggage and gave us wrist bands so we can use the facility. We ate breakfast, used the gym and walked around the town. We headed back to the hotel at 2 and were going to just relax by the pool but we were greeted and told us our room was ready. We were pleasantly surprised that the approached us when they saw we walked in. ||We were definitely excited to see the room as there were a number of poor reviews related to the room. This will not be one of those. Our room was clean, gorgeous and exactly like the pictures. ||Below are our rating for each area of the hotel. ||1: staff- 4.5 and this is only because not everyone speaks English but we understood because we are outside the tourist area. ||2. Breakfast- 3.5 it is the same thing everyday and 80% pastries. But the coffee and bread are really great. ||3. Pool - 5 absolutely gorgeous, fun and feels like a resort. The food is really good there too. ||4. Gym - 4 it’s a little small and gets really crowded in the afternoon and the people don’t know gym etiquette (ex: doing ab exercises in front of the weights) lots of women there to put on a “show”. My husband and I are avid gym goers so our expectations are very high. However this is not the hotels problem. The selections of equípeme y is adequate it’s just small for a hotel gym. ||5. Spa 4 the spa is very beautiful and the staff was excellent ||6. Room 4 the bathroom was a little run down and we had issues with the safe and the toilet however the staff helped immediately. ||All in all staff, everything was more than we could have asked for and highly recommend this hotel. Just remember it is far outside the touristy area so be prepared to travel to those areas. However we like to be where the locals are and visit the...

Worst travelling experience of my whole life. Booked this hotel for 2 nights during “Carnaval” through their own website since seemed to have a better fare than third party sellers. Reservation (and payment, seemed to be ok with a big green tick). First problem: Never received an email confirmation. To be sure it was good, contacted the hotel afterwards to confirm booking was confirmed by 4 ways. 1) email 2) WhatsApp 3) Instagram 4) last but not least, by phone. I just simply called them from other country, spoke " in Portuguese" to a reservation assistant (Mr. Julio Cesar) who told me reservation was successfully been taken and they were anxiously waiting to hosting us. Indeed, Mr. JC sent me to my email a reservation voucher right away after we hung up, with reservation number and reference number. Side note, “I HAD TO PROVIDE MY CREDIT CARD DETAILS TO BOOK”. It is literally “impossible” to get a reservation with any hotel in the world without providing payment details. Gave them everything and got confirmation by 4 different ways. Arrived to the hotel a week later, as soon as I landed in Rio, at around 10 PM, and to my surprise, as soon as I got to the Hotel, they had unilaterally “CANCELLED” my booking without prior notice, without sending me an email, saying as a clumsy excuse that as they did not have my payment details and I did not show up before 6 PM they had had to cancel my reservation for not having my credit card details (HUGE LIE). They just over-booked the hotel, sold my room to the highest bidder and throw us right into the street at 11 PM in a non-working day and city completely booked because of “Carnaval”. After battling an hour with 3 front desk assistants, they finally completely recognized it was their OWN mistake but unfortunately they did not have any solution to provide nor could take any responsibility on this. They just invited me to go away and solve this on my own because they were overbooked. Their only advice was to go to a 4 times more expensive hotel nearby. One of front desk officers even told me in low voice he was totally embarrassed and ashamed for the situation we had to go through because of Mr. Julio Cesars (booking assistant) FAULT. In conclusion, they took my reservation, saved my personal and payment details, sent me a confirmation voucher, confirmed me by 4 different ways booking was performed successfully but as soon as I arrived to the facilities, they just turned their faces on me and kicked me out right to the street. I've travelled my whole life and been to at least 50 countries. I have NEVER seen a SCAM like this. This has been the biggest fraud, lack of professionalism and customer service I have seen and experienced in my entire life. NEVER EVER GO TO THIS PLACE!...

For a very expensive hotel, I find it unbelievable it took almost an hour just to check in! The line was long and barely moved due to the lack of desk staff. -updated- The rooms were not clean and are starting to get old and run-down. Furniture was so worn they couldn't get it clean anymore. None of the sliding doors to the verandas worked. The tracks were so worn you had to use full force to open and close. We booked a suite for 5 people but when we got to the room there weren't enough beds. One was completely missing. Had to order, and it took hours to get it installed. (Pic attached) Also, I only had three towels for five people and no hand towels. -updated- Okay, so more to report. The room smelled like urine and the air-conditioning for the main bedroom didn't work so we roasted the first night, because staff couldn't fix until the next day (which they did). We ended up asking for a change of rooms, which they agreed to do when one became available in two days. So after two days, when we went to change the rooms they then failed to honor the room change agreement and said they had a plumbing problem with the other room. So, I asked them to go to the room and see the plumbing problem, and the manager got red in the face and left. When he came back, he said I could not see the problem and wouldn't explain except that we could not change the rooms. Basically, they were clearly lying. ------ The food wasn't very good at self-serve, very cold, extra garlicky, and dry like the food had been sitting for hours before service. Great location for the beach, but tours are extremely expensive through the hotel. Just call around for better pricing and/or use Uber to go to the major attractions and be your own tour guide. - update - So, analyzing why the lines are so long I realized the desk clerks are hand typing the information from the federal documents into the hotel computer (like IDs, passports, drivers license, etc.) While waiting I downloaded a free application to my phone that scans documents like these into computers. It took less than 5 minutes for me to scan 5 documents. Something a Wyndham should have by default so the poor deck clerks don't have to fat finger everything. Brazil is a high tech country and this is or should be standard. I scanned all types of documents as a test (including Brazilian), and this tech works great! Intercontinental was hands down much better..

The hotel is big and great at the first look, but looking closely, you can see it was a really great place, mas now don't have any kind of maintenance. The room have a great size and have a balcony, space to have sofas. The employees treat you nicely. The mattress it's really comfortable, everything is clean too, and the pool it's also great, expected from the hotel's category. However, the good things ends there. Everything looks great, just don't work properly. The fridge can't handle to cool a single water bottle, the phone wasn't working because the phone's plug was completely broken, so in order to call to order something, I had to go at the reception. The lights on the bathroom didn't work right. On the last night, the toilet's flush broke so I couldn't use it. The parking is manage by an third party, that makes no sense since the parking was inside the hotel and to park there, you have to pay r$50/day!!! I stayed 25h so I had to pay and r$40 extra just because I stayed 1 hour more. Everything there was extremely expensive for no reason. It's better leave the hotel and find some place near by so, you can save, probably, half of what you would spend there.
