Rio's Presidente Hotel — Hotel in Região Geográfica Imediata do Rio de Janeiro

I stayed here for nearly two weeks, late June / Early July 2016 in room 1303. The refurbishment of the hotel seems to be nearly complete, it looked as if floor 5 and below were still unchanged.||||My room was absolutely fine. The bed was firm (how I like it) and the small wardrobe had a safe in it. The bathroom and sanitary-ware were all up to standard. Sometimes it took a little while for hot water to reach me in the evenings and I did have a couple of cold showers. This was not much of an issue to me (‘cos I’m tough like that, innit). The air conditioning unit was effective. The wi-fi in the room was good enough for email and browsing, I don't know if there was any cost to this as it would have been taken care of for me.||||I can recall only three slight issues that I had with the room:||The opaque glass door of the bathroom let the morning light flood in, this room being one of the few with a bathroom window. I found that I could hang the runner that was across the bottom of the bed on to the door and block most of the light and this helped enormously. The room featured a minibar fridge, I had to unplug it though to cut down the noise. Unfortunately noise does travel in this hotel. All of those lovely hard surfaces in the corridors really do throw any sound all the way to the end. Some of my colleagues did have to change room to get further away from the ever-chiming lifts. You can still hear the lifts at the far end of the corridor though.||||The breakfast was good with enough variety and variation.||||The roof terrace shows promise. The bar looked to be very recently built and was not yet functional. There is a small pool and sun terrace which are very pleasant. There is also a gym and a sauna, I did not use either of these.||||All of the staff who I dealt with were helpful and polite.||||Previous posters had said that the hotel is in a dodgy area. This is not the case. Centro is an urban area in a city not without problems, you should always keep your wits about you. There were a few times when I was out by myself after dark - it’s really not that scary. The local square had a couple of fiestas while I was there and some might find the night-life of the area appealing. ||||I cannot comment upon the cost of the room as that was taken care of by the company I was working for.||||Given a quiet room I would happily...

Localização excelente, perto da Pça Tiradentes e de uma estação do VLT. É possível ir a pé até o Teatro Carlos Gomes, ao Teatro João Caetano e ao Real Gabinete Português de Leitura. A entrada tem um pequeno degrau, o que, por si só, não é acessível. Não havia um funcionário sequer para abrir a porta do hotel ou para ajudar a puxar as malas para dentro da recepção! A aparência do hotel, logo na recepção, é muito ruim, com mobiliário velho e escuro e, ao que parece, há poucos funcionários, já que, na hora em que cheguei, a recepcionista havia saído para jantar e tive que aguardar seu retorno, pois não havia ninguém para substituí-la. Aparentemente, o hotel está sendo reformado de cima para baixo. No terraço, há uma academia de ginástica ótima, com aparelhos novíssimos e uma linda vista para o Centro do Rio. Também há um bar (sem nenhum funcionário para atender ali) com mesas e cadeiras, uma piscina e uma sauna (estava desregulada, aquecendo exageradamente). Chegando ao quarto, a limpeza deixava a desejar: muitos pelos e cabelos dentro da pia, no chão do banheiro e do próprio quarto. A ducha é uma delícia, forte e com água bem quente. O problema é a vedação do box pois, quando você sai do banho, o chão está todo alagado. Infelizmente, as toalhas são de qualidade inferior, finas e nada macias. A vedação com blackout nas grandes janelas é eficiente. Canais de tv por assinatura não estão disponíveis, infelizmente. Os quartos contam com um cofre excelente, com muito espaço! A limpeza da roupa de cama deixa a desejar: sujeiras são visíveis e as cobertas têm cheiro de roupa que nunca foi lavada. O colchão, apesar de ser de mola, proporcionou boas noites de sono. O ar condicionado era do modelo split e funcionou bem e silenciosamente. O controle do ar condicionado é bem antigo. O hotel conta com restaurante em suas dependências, o que é ótimo! Li várias avaliações que diziam que o café da manhã é maravilhoso, porém, é apenas razoável. No 1º dia, o leite que peguei estava azedo. Há opções básicas e corriqueiras e os itens demoram a ser repostos. A moça que fica trabalhando no buffet do café da manhã não é nada simpática, mas os dois rapazes são o oposto! O restaurante também oferece buffet a quilo durante o almoço e as opções são ótimas, assim como preço: R$ 28,90 o quilo! À noite, o restaurante trabalha no esquema à la carte e oferece lanches 24h. As camareiras conversam em alto tom nos corredores e não deixam os hóspedes dormirem! No último dia, fiquei em um quarto superior, e lá pude ver que o banheiro recebeu melhor tratamento e reforma: havia secador de cabelo, espelho especial com aumento e luzes para maquiagem, louças mais nobres, box com nicho e esquema de torneira mais moderno (só que trocaram a direção da água quente com a água fria). O restante do quarto era todo igual, com exceção das opções de bebida alcoólica sobre a bancada. O staff do hotel, em maioria (com exceção da moça não simpática do café da manhã) é muito simpático e educado. É possível contar com o Uber na porta do hotel, a qualquer hora do dia ou da noite. Também é possível ir a pé a diversos bares e restaurantes da Lapa, de todas as faixas de preços. O wi-fi é gratuito em todas as áreas e funciona muito bem! O hotel deveria colocar em sua lista de reforma toda a estrutura do restaurante, que atualmente conta com mobiliário antigo, feio, escuro, com canos de ar condicionado aparentes e cortinas pesadas e antiquadas. O hotel deveria pedir aos funcionários que trabalham no buffet do café da manhã para não fazerem tanto barulho ao manusearem a louça! O barulho dos pratos sendo retirados e empilhados é tão grande, que dá vontade de sair correndo dali. Por favor, tenham pena dos nossos ouvidos! Além disso, impossível não perceber o horrível e fedorento cheiro dentro do elevador e na entrada do restaurante! O hotel deveria resolver esse problema urgentemente, pois causa péssima impressão! I have no idea why anyone would stay here. We selected it only because we needed it for a very brief stay, its near SDU airport, not too expensive and it looked better online. Note: although it shows as appr. 1.5 miles from SDU, it still took 20 minutes by taxi. The room is cramped, dark, hot and spare. The bathroom is just as depressing. The hallways are dark. Do not under any circumstances try to take a nap, because there is a constant requiem of BANGING on pipes, buzz-saws, trucks backing up/beeping, and other construction sounds that you hear when you lie in the bed.|| The neighborhood can only generously be described as 'sketchy' Once you navigate the torn up streets, the NYC dense passersby, the endless drab "restaurants" selling the same empinadas, you realize you really don't have much appetite left. One positive comment I have to make is that the front desk staff was terrific in trying mightily to move our luggage and hail a cab when it was time to leave. I realize this is the "Centro" district, so its not the high-rent area of Rio, but the hotel and the locale are two great...
