Solar Hostel Beach Copacabana — Hotel in Região Geográfica Imediata do Rio de Janeiro

I have never been to a worse hostel in the entire world. It is insanely cramped in all the rooms. They maximize the number of beds by squeezing then into this tiny old house. I attended during carnival and the prices were 10X more expensive, you'd think they could afford to run the A/C a bit more but they will only run it at night time when everyone is sleeping but with all the bodies in the room creating great it is still very uncomfortable. I went during Carnival for the first time to Rio de Janeiro and the crime in insane. People were getting robbed left and right. Majority of the foreigners visiting were robbed losing cell phones, wallets, cash, jewelry, getting roofied and even beat up, even girls😡. I will never come back to Rio for carnival and I will not recommend other foreigners to do so either. We all came to enjoy the festivities of carnival and spend money on events and gifts and food and things but the crime was where all of our money has gone and no one has policed it. I can't imagine how much worse it will be next year now that the criminals are all thriving after these events. Also sharing what three 15bd mixed dorm was like. Very good location, one street behind the beach front boulevard. Many shops, restaurants nearby. Metro station 8 mins walk. Airport bus stop close. Walking distance to Copacabana Fort (5 mins) and Ipanema beach (15 mins). I had difficulties to find the hostel in darkness, asked several shopkeepers and managed to get there. Hostel sent information how to get from airport to the hostel by bus. Please note that due to changes at airport the bus is leaving at the moment from Departure side, 2nd floor D door. There is no any sign from where, and which bus is departing. Waited 1 hour (it should operate every 30 min) and took bus nr 2016 (not 2018) and the bus driver dropped me off at Bob´s restaurant, from there few mins walk to hostel.||Room was ok, with aircon, bathroom clean....

The hostel itself was good. ||The staff who spoke English were incredibly helpful and willing to go out of their way to help. However a few spoke very limited English. ||The cleanliness of the hostel itself was good (I got unlucky with dirty roommates) however if you were there straight after the rooms were cleaned they were brilliant. ||Overall an okay stay. The major issue was the lack of a social environment. The kitchen area was okay but there was very little communal space, and nobody was interacting with each other.
