Disappointing Stay – Misleading Standards and No Accountability
We recently stayed at the Condor Hotel in Sunny Beach and were left very disappointed. Although the hotel is advertised as a 4-star property, in reality, it feels more like a 3-star—or even 2-star—experience.
One of the most frustrating aspects of our stay was the parking situation. We paid for on-site hotel parking (175 leva per car, totaling 350 leva for two cars) assuming it would be secure. However, during our stay, our car’s spoiler was stolen and the vehicle scratched. Our brother-in-law’s car was also scratched. When we brought this to the attention of hotel management, they offered no solution and merely advised us to report it to the police—who were dismissive and treated us poorly.
This brings us to the most frustrating part of the experience: the police in Sunny Beach. Upon trying to report the incident, we were met with officers repeatedly saying “no speak English” and waving us away, denying that a translator was available. Luckily, we spotted a translator at the entrance speaking to someone else—without that coincidence, we’re certain we would have been completely ignored.
We wasted two full days dealing with the police. After filing the report, we were told to return the next day at 1:00 PM to collect a certificate—which we also had to pay for. We arrived at 1:10 PM to find the police station closed, during official working hours. When we tried to access the building—a public institution—we were rudely thrown out, given no explanation, no queue number, and no indication of when we’d be let back in.
A local waiting outside told us something was happening inside, and the police were simply refusing to deal with anyone. When the doors reopened, only local residents were allowed in while foreigners were ignored. We again asked for a translator, and the officers pretended not to understand us.
We waited another hour until the translator appeared, and we asked her kindly for help. Unsurprisingly, the certificate we were told would be ready was not. We were asked to wait another hour. We finally received the document at 15:45—over two hours after the promised time.
To make matters worse, the hotel refused to refund even the parking fee. They claimed their parking policy states that the lot is unsecured. However, upon reviewing both their official website and their listing on Booking.com, there was no mention that the parking was unsecured or at the guest’s own risk. Had we known this, we could have simply parked on the street for free and taken the same risks—without losing 175 leva per car.
The food also left much to be desired—bland, repetitive, and generally unappetizing. For a hotel claiming to be 4 stars, the dining experience was well below standard.
Overall, our stay at Condor Hotel was disappointing. Between the lack of security, accountability, poor service, and misleading advertising, we cannot recommend this hotel. Guests deserve transparency and a basic level of respect and safety—none of which we felt during our time here.
Based on this experience, this was our first and last visit to Bulgaria. The high level of criminal activity, lack of support from local authorities, and absence of accountability from businesses like this hotel made us feel unsafe and unwelcome. We cannot recommend the Condor Hotel—or Sunny Beach—to anyone looking for a safe,...

It's located a few meters from the promenade, where there are plenty of shops bars and supermarkets, a pharmacy and the beach, and about 1.6 km to the centre where all the pubs and clubs are. ||Hotel rooms: basic and dated. |Bathroom served it's purpose but could have done with a shower screen. Hot water is also hit and miss...we had 3 warm/ hot showers in 7 days, rest of the time it was cold, and time of day made no difference. The extractor fan kept falling off the wall and we needed to put it back in place on several occasions. |Beds (2 singles pushed together) were comfortable and bedding changed 3 times. Air con worked well, however system outside was leaking and pipes not fitting so balcony was wet and slip hazard.|Not much room between the bottom of the beds and the dressing table, enough space to walk single file. Large flat screen TV, although we didn't bother with it.||Restaurant and All Inclusive: so they have "new all inclusive light concept". Food was plentiful and tasty. Couldn't fault it.|Breakfast 07:30 to 10:00 - was your usual choices (scrambled eggs were really good), and varied. Fresh pancakes, fruit, cereals etc. One thing to be aware of is they didn't seem to change the notices round much telling you what was what. There were pastries signed as chocolate, however they were cheese and spinach...still nice though. Free flowing hot drinks, fruit juices water. |Lunch was 12:00 to 14:00 buffet. Selection of hot and cold foods, fruit and cakes. No hot drinks available, only soft drinks, wines or lager.|Dinner was 18:00 to 21:00. Same as lunch selection wise. |Snacks were served in the pool bar between 10:00 and 11:30, and again from 15:00 and 17:00. These snacks were selection of cakes, biscuits and ice cream. |The only alcohol served is local lager, local red, white or rosè wine as part of the "all inclusive". Not even local spirits and therefore no cocktails. If you wanted spirits, then you had to go to the reception area where there is a small bar that sells premium spirits, but you have to stay in the reception area or small terrace at the front as served in a glass. |Pool was large and clean, with a separate children's one attached, measuring just 0.5m. The main pool depth goes from 1.5m to 1.65m. It was absolutely freezing! But welcomed when the sun was intense heat! Sun loungers plentiful, clean and in good condition. The life guard on duty between 9am and 5pm, and he ensures the area is clean...see him mopping from 8am each morning, and cleaning the pool.|Pool Bar is open from 10am to 10pm. See above regarding drinks.||Staff: the only way I can describe them is sullen ( except the 2 ladies on reception) and there were only about 3 who spoke some English. There was no smiles, no friendliness and no conversations. Noticed this was common theme towards all the guests.||Overall not a bad hotel, but could do...
Read moreRoom was disappointing. Have no words for the bathroom picture speaks for itself. Beds we’re changed once and fresh towels given once. Everytime we showered water came under the door and soaked the hallway and carpet. We did use what we had to block the doors but of course with limited towels this was difficult. Had an awful damp smell due to this. Our cupboard door was broken, light cover fell and smashed.
Pool was freezing but we did go in the middle of September. Sun loungers were ripped and stained. Pool bar chair cushions were filthy. Most of the time you’re waiting for staff to come to the pool bar for a drink - beer, wine or soft drinks. No cocktails if you’re going all inclusive. You can help yourself with Icecream but children were seen with the scoop in their mouth and staff did not change it.
Restaurant food was ok. A few options. You probably wouldn’t starve. We did need to eat out a fair few times though. Staff would rush you out, taking plates even if you’re not finished. Stray cats also scrounge at the tables.
Only lobby toilets are available here. You can walk through the restaurant from the pool area at breakfast, lunch or dinner but other than that you will have to walk all the way around which means leaving the hotel only to walk back in a different way.
Was told we’d have luggage storage also, hotel closed at 2pm. Our transfers were not until 7:30-45. We sat outside the hotel with all of our things until then. That also meant having to wait to get dinner at the airport as we couldn’t take our luggage with us to restaurants. It was nice to see the staff carry back multiple boxes of pizza back in for themselves while we sat outside though.
Wasn’t too pleasant having a staff member winking at my 15 year old sister either. We avoided him as much as possible. I would walk a different way or hide her if we see him. Think he got the message after that.
Local restaurants and the beach were brilliant, shame about this hotel.
Rooms are a 1 star.
Food 3/4 stars. Honestly wasn’t too terrible just a few days dinner had to be else where.
Service 2 and a half stars. Some days were better than others, felt like they all couldn’t wait to finish.
Location 5 stars, would come back. Just different hotel.
Hotel all together 2 stars. Needs to be updated on the websites and booking. Was...
