My husband and i went on xmas eve and returned new years eve.||we stayed at the iglika palace hotel. its not as central as the rila which is on the slopes but its behind this and is only about 3 mins walk to the ski shop and another 30 secs to the slopes.||firstly the hotel lived up to its 3 star 'appearance', the room was adequate for a couple and we actually got a double bed without request rather than the usual twin beds, but the reception staff weren't very helpfull and spoke very very little english and had little interest in anything you said or asked them. i booked a half body/back massage which should have been 30 minutes. i only got 10 minutes and the beautician had the cheek to take a tip. when i relaised it had been cut short, i asked for half my money back and they refused and walked away!||the food in the hotel was attrotious. it was hot and cold self service buffet. the hot food was always cold, especially breakfast and the christmas dinner served consisted of salad, cold battered fish then chips, rice and gammon! i got severe food poisoning after 2 days. i wasn't sure if it was from the food in the hotel or one of the snack bars in the town. ||the food in town can be nice, it depends where you go. franco's does nice but sloppy pizzas but has rubbish service. katy's provides nice quality food and nice service. the mexican has nice food and service but prepare for the power cuts as they have a live band every night who blow the watts! we went to other places and discovered that the service was very poor. you are left waiting for about 30 minutes before having to ask the waitress for a menu and drinks! and you end up with your side orders and starts at the end of your meal after asking several times for them. ||because i was laid up in bed all week with food poisoning and other stuff i didn't get to sample all the slopes but my husband who was having lessons was taken up on the gondola and said it was a fab view and there were fab beginners slopes. the only day i went out i was taken up on teh chair lift to a blue run then came all the way down on a fab green run back to the village. the snow is very icy though and on our last day it rained!||the night life consists of pubs, night clubs in the rila and samokov and also the buzz bar. you'll also notice lots and lots of peep show bars and strip joints. ideal for the groups of lads i suppose!||overall i did not enjoy the holiday, there is no sense of customer service or helpfullness. the food service is rubbish yet your hindered into places as you walk past to enter!||one good thing is, its very cheap. 80p for 20 fags. 2.50 for a bottle of local brandy. 90p for a beer. 9.50 for 30 mins massage! oh and its fake designer gear galore! jeans, hoodies, belts, bags and purses. i've bought a ton and sold for 3 times as much on ebay. ||i think thats the best thing thats come out of...

We would pay extra for another hotel next time.||- Our room booked was a small double, (economy room) admittedly this was likely our own mistake for not checking this but the bed itself was a small double bed - no good if either of you are tall or if you like to sleep not touching each other! Asked twice if we could upgrade but were told we would need to speak to manager who wasn’t there at that time. ||- Kids seem to run around the bar and restaurant area and are ignored by staff even when they run into them! Parents need to do better ||- Cleaners left new towels and toilet roll everyday but the room didn’t look like it was cleaned at all and bedsheets weren’t changed once in a week. One day they left a wet rag in our room ||- No toilets in bar area - they are down one level and there are silver fish in the women’s WC in changing area ||- You have to buy drinks for dinner, even water||- Pool area is nice but dangerously slippy ||- Wet rooms don’t work, after a shower following skiing the floor is slippy and wet all night as it doesn’t drain properly ||- Rooms very warm but ok if you turn off radiators ||- all of the food at the buffet was cold - common in Bulgaria but microwave would be nice to use. Eggs often undercooked and was worried about getting ill. Food seemed cheap to me - chicken on the bone etc ||- On check out, we had to wait whilst the cleaner was called to check our response was correct that we hadn’t used the mini bar. No issue with that, but an older couple in front of us did not receive this treatment. ||- on the positive side, food was varied and did taste nice, the dressing gown and slippers were a really nice touch. Bed was really comfy. Rooms are modern and cosy and the common areas...
Read moreThis was our last holiday as a family & our 1st time in Bulgaria. On arrival staff were helpful. Bathroom was mouldy & shower door missing so water went all over the floor. Towels were frayed, blood stains on the covers. The air conditioner broke during the night & we had a river of water flowing down the wall & across the floor. It took quite a while for staff to understand what we were trying to explain to them. We were told that there was a gym which was not what I would call it. Pool area was a health & safety risk with wires to the paddling pool across the floor. Children’s park that was advertised had 1 slide. Children’s chairs broken. Cushions on the sun loungers were filthy. ||Food was fine to begin with but very repetitive & as it got busier there was no room in the dining area. ||Snacks were served during the day but you had to be quick off the mark as other guests did not have any manners & would fill their plates high until everything was gone. By the time staff brought more snacks the other guests would be finished & push back in again- staff weren’t interested when this was reported. ||The list goes on with parts of the floor broken to skirtings broken. Our complaint wasn’t taken seriously as we got told that we should of detailed all of this on the review form when we checked out which we weren’t given I had even contacted my tour operators on the 2nd day of the holiday. The Balkan rep who I finally managed to get hold of explained some of out concerns but as they spoke swiftly in their own language I did not knew what was said. I have over 70 photos of what was wrong with the holiday. Some staff were friendly especially the lady who makes the pancakes in...
