A very well deserved 5 stars. This hotel is exceptional and we were sad to have to leave. The staff are extremely welcoming, attentive to every detail and do everything they can to make your stay memorable.
John the Manager collected us from the airport and registered us in. A welcoming house cocktail is offered whilst your passport is scanned and room keys programmed.
Our room 102 is alongside the restaurant and has a lovely view of the swimming pool from one's bed! This room is a triple, air conditioned (really powerful so if you want it cold it delivers) with a shower and separate WC. Your room comes with a mini bar and two bottles of free water every day. The room is very quiet as is the hotel as there are only 25 rooms.
Breakfast is excellent. Fresh fruit, espresso coffee, choice of fruit juices, cereals, different croissants, pastries etc. And you can order fresh eggs cooked how you like the.
Meals. Now that's a a story in it's own right. The Chef is brilliant. The food he cooks is outstandingly presented, cooked to perfection, delivered straight from the pan. I cannot rave enough about the food. Coupled with the professional service from the waiters each meal was a delight. The photos don't do the food justice as it's the taste that really made it. Once we had had one meal we opted to have every meal here over the 3 days we were at the hotel. Ausgezeichnet! as the Germans say.
Swimming pool. It's salt water. It's kept clean and at night with the blue ambient lighting it's another experience to enjoy both looking at and swimming in. Clean, large swimming towels are always to hand. If you want a drink or snack by the pool just catch the attention of one of the staff.
Additional services. These include a spa and massage offering. It's priced on the high side but feedback from a couple of guests was that it was worth it. (Sorry now that I had no spare time to take one).
Travel. The hotel is between Siem Reap and Angkor Wat down an (unmetalled, unsealed, unpaved) murram type road (red earth road type in tropical Africa). It's 7 Km to town which is a tuk tuk or remorque. Cost generally $3 sometimes you may get it for less but $2 is probably the lowest you'll get. Being out in the country means it's super quiet and relaxing. Listen to the crickets, birds and look up at the stars at night. And John kindly took us to the airport. Take the back road and enjoy the countryside.
Our thanks to you all for making our three days so enjoyable and memorable. We just loved it, the food, the staff, the newness... everything.
Would I come back. Of course and I'd stay a little longer if I could.
Keep it up team Grand Venus...
Read moreAmazing hidden gem if you’re looking to relax and unwind in Siem Reap. The rooms are large spacious and airy, windows looking to the pool and lush. Rooms are cleverly layout and have separate toilet and bathrooms. The bedding and mattress is great for a good nights sleep as maybe even better than most 4 stars hotel, might be because it’s a newer hotel. The Pool is the main feature smack in the middle of the compound and really gives off a tropical getaway feel. So the facilities and amenities are great for the price. The staff however provided a service well beyond expectation. I myself have been in this service industry for a long time so I understand how far service can make up for the overall experience. The rooms were thoroughly cleaned (toilet is washed everyday) and bedsheets, duvet covers and pillow covers all replaced daily. Breakfast food spread is simple but good, variety of bread, pastry, store bought croissants, sausages, bacon and lastly fruits. They also serve tea/coffee/and juices with the addition of 1 a la carte menu : fried rice, noodles, continental breakfast set etc. Reception is informative and can suggest tours if you need or routes if you feel like venturing off on your own. Guides and transportation from trusted kind locals wanting to give you a warm experience can be recommended (be wary of sweet talking street touts as they usually come with ulterior motives!!). Props to Thomas for helping us navigate and enjoy the local vibes! Props to Robean for riding through rain and storm taking us everywhere we wanted to go and kindly looking out for us during our stay! Lastly to balance this review you need to hear the cons: Location is secluded, so no shops or cafes nearby. In fact it’s so secluded that at night the roads are barely lit up around this area. I prefer staying away from the bustle of the city. An easy 2 dollar ride with get you into the cities busy zones. The hotel has a cafe & pool side bar but operates only til 10pm.
Overall a great stay, almost slept past breakfast time on more than one occasion, all made even better with the warm and kind...
Read moreArriving at the hotel the sales pitch starts. Having been in contact with the reservations manager I've said I wanted a sunrise tuktuk tour and was quoted 22 dollars. On a arrival it was 24 plus 10 dollars for sunrise? Mountain bikes were 10 dollars a day, masage 35 for an hour, all prices were extremely inflated compared to siem reap. Mountain bike in town was 4 dollars a day and masage 5 dollars. We ended up coming back with a motorbike for 10 dollars a day as the hotel location is quite far from town and we weren't going to pay their prices. Got in the pool in the afternoon to nearly lose my footing as tiles are slippery and sharply edged. Next day they forgot to tell to collect our boxed breakfast, expecting it to be there on return I was told they gave it away. Also our room wasn't cleaned. Becoming frustrated I expressed my unhappiness to which the receptionist decided to ignore me. Eventually the manager mr Chan managed to smooth things over by offering us lunch, to which he opened the kitchen especially for us as they don't serve lunch normally. The staff literally pounce on you as soon as you leave or arrive, getting looks when you're coming in with your laundry done ( done mine up the road for 6.50 which worked out 85 at hotel) or with your own drinks which again are overpriced. You wouldn't expect a 5 star hotel to sit on a potholed dirt road, with tarmac nearly everywhere else. The cleanliness standards could have been higher with dirty stained cushions on reception sofa and the the floor was never mopped. If you don't hang out your clean up room sign it doesn't get done. Not really a 5 star service, extremely disappointed...
