Let me first start by saying this is the best Holiday Inn Express that I have stayed at over my traveling career. I travel frequently and always stay at IHG properties and this was by far the best.
I originally booked this hotel because it was connected to a World Health Gym. Amazing by the way but I will touch on that later. I was supposed to arrive in Edmonton the evening of 8/11, however my flight into Edmonton was canceled and had to make different accommodations to get to Edmonton the following day. As soon as I knew my flight was going to be canceled I called the hotel which was around 10:00pm and let them know I was not going to be making it that night but I would be there the next day as long as my flight would make it. They said no problem and hung up. I received a call back about half hour later letting me know that I was still going to be charged for the room for that night even though I was not there. I was a little taken back by this and responded with my story about the flight being canceled. The receptionist then said we could discuss in the following day upon my arrival (as I was in no mood to discuss after 7 hours of flight delays and a flight cancelation). I arrived the next day and the hotel staff was super friendly and accommodating to my unpleasant experience with my airline. I can not remember the receptionist or Managers name who helped me but I sincerely Thank You. They did not charge me for the night that my flight was canceled and just pushed back my arrival date. Professionally handled all the way around.
Overall Hotel: Very clean, easy layout, and multiple elevators. Parking lot was great. Never had any issues with parking or security. Felt very safe the entire stay. Greeted as IHG member and asked if I wanted goody bag or points. Went with the points of course! Location was great. Next to great food and easy highway access.
Room: Very clean, spacious, neat and tidy. Fridge and microwave were great and the bathroom was very clean. Towels and tub especially clean. Very quiet as well. Never heard any noise. I could run the a/c and fan for white noise which is always a big plus.
Workout Facility: As I noted the workout facility was the main reason I chose this hotel as it was not very close to my office. This place was exceptional. So easy to get a day pass. Just have to write your name and room number down and then get full access to a full gym. Hours were great. I got workouts in at 6am and 6pm. Little crowded but not overwhelming.
Breakfast: Average Holiday Inn Express Breakfast. I love them, hits all nutritional groups.
Room Cleaning: I am typically not a big fan of having employees clean my room on such a short stay so I can not give much description here. However, they did do something I have never had happen at an IHG property. After my day of work on 8/13, I returned to my hotel room for a brief time and received a phone call. It was housekeeping calling to ask if I needed any supplies due to my "do not disturb" sign on my door. Wow!!! This was great. Great Customer Service.
As I noted before this is the best IHG property I have stayed at. Looking forward to staying here again if my travel allows it. Thanks for being...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel for 3 nights for a sporting competition for our 9 year old daughter. We had problems with the toilet right away. Front desk brought a plunger up and we got the toilet working again. The next day we were out all day, when returning to our room the toilet would not flush again. The next morning I approached front desk about the situation, they insisted we change rooms and that because there was no comparable room to move to, they would upgrade us to a suite. We went for dinner before moving, when we got back from dinner we were told that because we are staying on a "group rate" we are no eligible for an upgrade, but they found us an other room the same as ours but on the 1st floor. We moved all our stuff to the 1st floor. We went to bed early (my 9 year old daughter had to be up at 5:30 AM for competition) the new room was located right beside the lobby, elevator, pool and ice machine. The amount of noise surrounding us was way too much and she could not sleep. My husband went to front desk at 10:00PM explaining the whole situation and asked if we could please go back to our original room and we will just wait to have to toilet fixed by maintenance the next day. He was told "no because you have now dirtied up 2 rooms and we wont be able to sell either room now" My husband again explained having a child that really just needs to sleep, and insisted we be allowed to go back to our original room. Finally front desk agreed to let us move back. At 10:45 PM the front desk agent decided to call our room to see if "everything was ok" I would have maybe understood the courtesy call if he had done the same when we moved to the downstairs room but he didnt. I absolutely believe this phone call was to pay us back for the annoyance we had caused them by moving rooms. The phone call was NOT necessary, and had once again woke my poor child up!!!! This agent was WELL AWARE that we had a young child trying to sleep! I did bring this up with management and they did apologize but did not tell me how or if they planned on doing anything about it. I will never stay at this location again. Side note, this hotel is short on towels and ran out! We had multiple families with our group and some rooms had to go...
Read moreDuring our recent stay of four nights, the housekeeping left a toilet paper roll on the floor from Thursday morning until Sunday morning after they changed it. There was a toque (hat) under the heater in the room from a previous customer. This should have been caught if the chambermaid vacuumed right to the walls versus only in the center of the room. Our room was not vacuumed at all during our stay, so this issue was not going to be caught until atleast after our departure. Only upon arrival and on our last day were the bathroom consumeables replaced / refilled. On the last night of our stay, there was loud music from another customer. The security came up immediately after our phone call and dealt with the noise which was greatly appreciated. What was not appreciated was the phone call from the front desk 10 minutes later letting us know that the noise complaint was dealt with. We were very aware that the noise was shut off as it was quiet and had finally started getting some sleep when the phone rang waking us up again making for a very long drive home the next day with only a few hours sleep. I had mentioned to the housekeeping department to please pay a little more attention after the first day we noticed the lack of vaccuuming and lack of replacing the bathroom items. I didn't want to specifically point out the deficiencies as I was hoping that they would put in a little extra effort.
It was very disappointing to say the least. I usually enjoy staying at your hotel but I feel the quality of the service has decreased since my last visit.
The location is great for us as it is a quick trip to Northlands in the morning for the show and I really do enjoy the breakfast.
Sorry to say negative things online but I have been trying to complete survey and can not...
