My experience at the end of February, 2025 was absolutely atrocious: the room was very old and worn out. The bathroom was missing a bulb in the light over the sink, the tap control on the tub fell off and I could barely get it to work for a much needed shower after a 12 hour day of travel. The bed headboard fell off when I tried to move the bed closer to the electric outlet which was controlled by the main light switch by the front door. After the first night (thankfully I only paid for one) I asked to speak to the manager (she was away on holiday) so I talked to another young woman and told her all the deficiencies. I said I want to switch rooms or get a 50% discount for this room as I needed a place to stay. She came back after speaking to the owner who lived off sight in Surrey, and said I could move to a bigger room downstairs but it wasn’t cleaned yet and would be more money. I looked at the room which okay adequate but the owner would not budge on the price. And told the young woman to tell me to go to another hotel if I wasn’t happy. (Which is did in the end). It took me 2 weeks for the owner to email me my damage deposit. And only I phoned to complain. At that time I was told that the motel will be demolished and developed into townhouses or such. I would NEVER recommend this motel. And the owner is obviously an unscrupulous slum landlord. I’m embarrassed to be a Canadian and to think some nice tourist would end up here. (Ps the stairs and small deck to the office are partially broken or damaged and not safe…. I could go on….). Ps: this is my follow up to the owners reply. I have no idea if any of issues were replaced. I doubt if the stairs and deck leading to the office have been replaced or fixed. I have not been back, nor will I be. I just looked at my pics again; wow the black marks on the tub tiles. Gross. This owner is obviously unscrupulous. If he had any kind of business sense or common sense he would send pics of the “fixes” and refund my money and the money of others who complained. NEVER STAY IN THIS...
Read moreMouse excrement, human fecal matter on walls, broken toilet seat… still with me? Let me tell you about Beach Grove Motel. We booked the “last room available” before our ferry. We did not last 2 hours before checking out (and most of that time was not spent at the location). The room was disgusting - The room has uneven floor with gaps in the flooring, gaps in the door, table in the kitchenette “steadied” with a chunk of paper. Left over premade ice left in the fridge from god knows when and the ac didn’t come to the front room. The beds were dirty, the back room was gross and grungy, walls and baseboards had soo much wear and tear throughout the unit it looked like it was a “slumlord” special. The bathroom was disgusting, the tub was not rinsed out after there “cleaning”, the toilet seat was broken and holding on by one clip, fecal matter on the walls and stained towels. The utility closet was full of mouse poop and traps. The fire alarm was unplugged and the fire extinguisher hadn’t been serviced in over 5 years (well past the expiration date). Window in the bathroom did not have a screen. There were left over cleaning cloths left in the room.
I have attempted to contact the manager to discuss matters but they have sat on our messages for over a month. This place still charged us for the full stay even though we did not stay.
Overall very negative experience at this location.
Update as you can see from the managements response they are not taking responsibility of the cleanliness of the site and are thinking I am looking for something more than letting others be aware of the conditions. I will expand upon their response -
the utility closet was not locked as they stated below.
I don’t believe for a minute that they would resolve the issues with the 5 year expired extinguisher, broken toilet seat or the cleanliness of the unit. Clearly trying to save face. However with the numerous 1 star reviews I don’t think they that really interested in that.
Don’t feed into their fluffy attempt at trying to dismiss a poor rating it was...
Read moreI hate to do this because the front desk people were so lovely, however I wouldn’t choose this motel again. I booked a pet friendly suite for two nights while on a business trip, and I’m glad I didn’t end up booking for the three nights I had originally planned. When I arrived it smelled strongly of pinesol, but after looking around the room I’m not sure what they had cleaned. After the pinesol scent dissipated, the smell was replaced by the strong stench of cigarettes. My kitchen was filthy, with dust caked all over the top of the oven fan and food splatters all over the walls. My single dinner plate was placed upside down in a dirty drawer, and I ordered take out for every meal since I couldn’t even clean the mediocre selection of dirty dishes the previous occupant had left behind in the cupboard, as there was no dish soap. A previously used sponge was left beside the sink. There is no hairdryer (not even a foldable travel version), and they only provide bar soap and shampoo in the bathroom (no conditioner). There’s a sign on the wall asking you to remove makeup with a coloured towel, yet they don’t provide it for you. There’s actually signs all over the place stating different things like “we’re not responsible if anything gets stolen from your room” and “if the police come for any reason then you’ll be asked to leave with no refund”. The shower still had soap scum on the glass doors, and the bathtub tap handle came off completely when trying to turn on the water. There were splatters of who knows what all over the walls and ceiling in literally every room in my suite. The baseboards looked like they had never been cleaned before, and the one chain lock for the door (no deadbolt or inner knob lock) was held on by a single screw. I had to barricade the door in order to feel safe enough to try and sleep on the rock hard mattress. The more I looked, the more it was apparent that cleanliness is not important here. I understand that this a motel and it doesn’t have to be fancy, but it should at...
