Booked the hotel so that it would be close to Boreal Vet for surgery....and it is.....less than 5 minutes drive away.
We arrived to a virtually empty parking lot, which filled with many trademan/oil field/utility trucks....so the hotel caters well to them. Despite some guests arriving later at night, there wasn't any hijinks or loud drunkeness....clearly, the hotel was situated for hard working people to sleep; not partayyyyyy!
Despite our room not technically being available for check in until 3 pm, the room was ready by 11 am, on the main floor (to accommodate our gimpy dog).....and the staff extremely accommodating for our needs.
Comfortable beds and (unlike some hotels) more USB and 110 volt outlets than you could possibly need.
Bathroom is appropriate.....no bathtub but a huge walkin shower with plenty of hot water and plenty of pressure.
Attached to the hotel is a Mr. Mike's Bar & Grill if you don't want to go out.....not sure if room service was an option but who does that anymore?
The room had a coffee maker, small fridge (no freezer compartment....but who cares?), fairly up-to-date large screen television.
Pool and Gym has widely available hours, and on-site laundry.
Heated (I think) Smoking shack is outside along with a fenced pet "relieving" area....
Parking lot is ample with plenty of plug ins.
Even though it's located in an area largely surrounded by warehouses and industrial services, there are MORE than ample services either within walking distance or a short drive away.
Close to the hotel is booze & weed (if that's your inclination), a noodle bar, A&W, Popeyes Chicken, Gas & Convenience Store, Indian Food, and a few other services.
The only issue? The heat control in the room. The thermostat is pretty uncomplicated but the temperature in the room routinely cycled between 26⁰C to 19⁰C ...... and when it blows cold.....it's...
Read moreBeware of this hotel! There’s some seriously sketchy and shady behavior happening here.
My team booked a block of rooms, but I booked mine separately through Expedia to collect travel points. After we checked out, my niece realized she had forgotten some belongings in the room. I picked her up later that evening around 8 PM—with no missed calls from the hotel about the items.
When I called to ask about the forgotten belongings, the front desk agent said the items were still in the room because they were charging me for another night! I explained that my niece had simply forgotten her things and we had already checked out. Despite this, he insisted I had to pay for an extra night. I asked to speak to a manager—conveniently, the manager was “not available.”
I then requested to see a copy of the hotel policy that justified this charge. The agent smugly told me, “My manager said so, and I don’t have to show you anything.”
At this point, I was extremely frustrated. I mentioned that since they were treating me this poorly, I would cancel any future team bookings. Suddenly, the agent needed to call the same ‘unavailable’ manager.
Five minutes later, he called me back to say it was all a “mistake” and I would not be charged. Funny how quickly the manager became available when money was on the line!
This entire experience felt dishonest, shady, and completely unprofessional. I booked through Expedia for convenience and travel points, but their treatment of a paying guest—especially someone whose team had booked multiple rooms—was awful.
Travelers, be warned: If you stay here, you might find yourself battling over bogus charges and dealing with a staff that seems to make up policies as they go. I will never stay here again—and I’ll be advising my entire team to...
Read moreGorgeous, well-managed hotel with modern rooms and lots of amenities.
Pros: VERY CLEAN rooms, masterfully designed suites, high quality build in materials, professional light design. Lots of storage space for your luggage, coats and clothes. Lots of dining options nearby, several of which are open late, suitable for travellers. Full, free breakfast with fresh waffles, eggs, breads and several spreads is served. Rather impressive spread. Facilities onsite include a gym, indoor pool and bodega adjacent to the lobby. Rooms include coffee maker, mini fridge, microwave, office desk, TV, etc. DOUBLE sinks and vanities in the suites make it a breeze to get ready for families or groups with multiple travellers. Exceptional beds, very comfortable. Supreme views of St. Albert from the rooms. We spotted several Northern Herons from our room. Nice touch to a fancy stay.
Cons: Older staff members come across as needlessly hypervigilant sometimes. Maybe from bad/younger guests causing damages or partying in the past??? (In any case, we didn't see evidence of it during our stay). Other visitors were very tame. Lots of children and families staying in the hotel however noise largely wasn't an issue. TV is not a smart TV so don't expect to watch youtube or streaming services in here, only local cable. Weird choice for such a posh room. NO VENDING MACHINES ONSITE so will have to buy snacks from the hotel store at ground level, which is minorly inconvenient for no reason.
Shame because would be a perfect hotel aside from these minor issues. But premises were absolutely immaculate so 4/5. Would gladly come back to this excellent hotel. Loved the attention to detail. Thanks for having us!!
Note: if rating off of room alone would be a...
