Beware of unknown people behind the front desk, mishandling of credit card information, cash scams, and breaking and entering!
We made a reservation through a third party through our credit card concierge and paid in full. Upon our late night arrival at the Golden Days Inn, the front desk lady, who didn't have a uniform or name tag, informed us that we were required to place a $100 deposit on our card, with reimbursement scheduled for the following day. My husband gave his business credit card, expecting a standard hold and refund process, as with other hotels. The lady checked us in and gave us the room keys. However, after giving us the receipt for the $100 hold, she insisted on entering the card information into a computer, despite the reservation being fully paid and the deposit already taken. The lady provided no paperwork to justify the need for recording our credit card information.
We offered a secondary card, but she refused and wouldn't honor our reservation without the business card information, citing hotel policy. However, she couldn't show us this policy or any official document about the process. She offered to take an additional $100 deposit in cash instead in order to let us use the room, but said we would still have to wait 12 hours for the refund to the credit card. She wouldn't provide her name or any identification.
She informed us that despite having a paid reservation, a deposit taken, and being checked in, we still couldn't use the room. We called Days Inn customer service, and they said there is no such policy for recording credit card information. Next, we contacted our credit card concierge, who reached out to the third-party reservation company they used, which subsequently contacted the lady at the front desk. She took the call in front of us. She refused to give them her name also, cited company policy again, and then acted like she couldn't hear the person on the line (even though we were right there and could hear them talking to her) and hung up the phone on them.
Upon calling our credit card concierge yet again, they told us to use the room, since it was paid for, the deposit was taken, and we had the keys. We told the reception lady we were going to our room, and that she could call the police if she had a problem with that. She started screaming at us as we left the reception to park our car and get to our room. We opened the door and stepped into our room, and then she tried to barge in. She actually, physically tried to push the door open and come into our room. We had to push the door closed and lock it. We could hear her screaming outside.
When we checked out the next day, we told the person at the front desk (another lady, with a full uniform) about our troubles. She gave us the manager's card, told us to call him, and wrote nothing down.
In over 20 years of traveling, we've never experienced such untrustworthy treatment from any hotel. As far as we can see, this person (who may or may not work at this hotel) was trying to commit credit card fraud by taking our card information without proper documentation or procedure, tried to swindle us out of $100 in cash, and then tried to break...
Read moreI just got off the phone with my wife who was travelling home to Calgary from BC. She checked into this hotel because years ago, when it was the Golden Rim Inn, I had stayed there.
My wife's feedback on her stay was nothing short of disgusting. She checked into a room where the TV did not work, she called the front desk, the desk clerk attended, wiggle the power cable and voila the TV then works. The room was dirty, it had not been vacuumed or not vacuumed properly, there were round pieces of paper from a paper punch on the carpet. My wife turned down one of the two beds and saw a spec on the sheet that she thought was blood, but it was not, she took a wet face cloth to wipe whatever the spec was and it came off the sheet, she thinks it may have been a human scab of some sort. Either way, if the bed had been made up properly with fresh linen, there would have been nothing on the bed. The bathroom was not supplied with the usual incidentals, it had a bar of soap ONLY, NO shampoo, NO conditioner, NO hand lotion .. NOTHING ... just soap. When she entered her room, the room was musty smelling, the room did not smell fresh or clean. The toilet paper in the bathroom was less than 1/4 of a roll.
Her dining experience was also horrible. She had a salmon entree for dinner in the restaurant. The salmon was previously frozen and was dry, it appeared to have been prepared by microwave and the fries were previously frozen. So much for a full service kitchen, this restaurant, when it was the Golden Rim Inn used to have awesome food that was prepared by an actual human being that knew how to cook.
Breakfast was equally disgusting, when she arrived for breakfast, there were no eggs left and no staff around or paying attention to provide more. The sausages were cocktail sausages and the waffles were frozen waffles that you need to put in a toaster. She walked out of the restaurant, approached the front desk and asked the desk clerk if there was anywhere she could get a good breakfast in Golden. The clerk simply said "No" and left it at that, no even picking up on the fact that my wife (a customer) was actually saying that the breakfast being provided by the restaurant was lacking.
So in summary, the room was disgusting, poor housekeeping (beds not freshly made, no vacuuming, on incidentals), poor maintenance (loose TV wires or electrical cables) and the food was disgusting.
Based on my wife's experience, if I had no place to stay in Golden, BC and this hotel was my last resort, I would sleep in my car and have dinner and breakfast at MacDonald's who have far better food quality than what my wife experienced at this hotel. (and yes, she did say MacDonald's would have been a better choice).
For a hotel chain such as the Days Inn, this guest experience was the worst that they could get. Shame on the owners/operators of this hotel, they really need to learn more about providing hospitality and hotel management. There is a lot more to providing a guest experience than simply buying a hotel and opening the doors. Customers are #1, but my wife will never be a customer of this particular...
Read moreHorrible experience with the staff at this hotel. We stayed here for 2 nights in August. We were a family of 13 staying in 4 rooms. The first full day we decided to explore the area but were not informed the roads leading to the hotel would be inaccessible after 10pm. There was construction on the highway and the roads closed between the hours of 10pm-7am. We ended up having to sleep all 13 people (5 of which were children and 1 was a senior) between 3 cars at a rest area. We had attempted to plead with the construction crew to let us through, as we were only 10mins from the hotel and had no previous knowledge that such a closure would be here (we aren't from this area, hence why we were staying at a hotel), but they wouldn't allow it. The crew did; however, inform us that they've had MANY issues with this motel in the past as they are the ONLY ones in the area who REFUSE to preemptively inform their guests of the road closures (which directly impact access to the hotel) and that they continuously receive attitude when trying to communicate with this specific hotel (in hindsight this is not a surprise given the treatment we recieved from the hotel the following day). When we got back around 7am the following day, we immediately brought our concerns to the front desk. We were met with an immature woman who had the WORST attitude I have ever seen. She rolled her eyes and continuously asked how any of it was her problem. We told them we were informing them in hopes that this wouldn't happen to anyone else in the future and we recommended that they begin informing guests about this at check-in, but we were continued to be met with attitude. The woman then went on a rampage blaming us and stating that it's apparently "been like this for over a year" and insisted we "should have obviously known"... Again, we are not from here WHICH IS WHY WE WERE AT RHE HOTEL! Why on earth would I stay in a hotel if I'm from the same area as the hotel?? When we asked if we could check out an hour later, given the circumstance, they refused and said if we left even a minute late we would be charged. The absolute disregard for putting guests in a dangerous and comprising situation, combined with the worst attitude I've ever witnessed in a client service oriented job was deplorable. We will never be staying here again and have continued to inform family and friends not to either (some of whom have already intentionally avoided booking with this hotel in the last month for that reason). It's crazy that an establishment refuses to inform clients that their hotel will not be accessible between certain hours and what's worst is they seem to hire people who have zero compassion or people skills. I will be following up with a formal complaint as well, as we were told someone would be following up with us regarding the incident but it's been over a month and no one has - not shocked that they lied (very much seems to align with their values, or rather lack thereof). I'm absolutely disgusted by this place and would recommend literally any other hotel in the area...
