🗣️ “I call top bunk!” What a memorable start to our West Coast Trail adventure. The Hiker Huts are basic, as advertised, but they’re also very charming. The sheets and fleece blankets are clean, the beds are comfortable, the two shared bathrooms are private, and the keyless entry is ultra convenient. The long front window in our cabin did not have a curtain, but it’s easy enough to stand behind the door to change. Our cabin (Cabin “I”) included two wall outlets as well as a baseboard heater, which warmed the small space quickly. We were able to park in front of the cabins, which was great for loading/unloading our gear. The Coastal Kitchen Cafe is right across the street and the Renfrew Pub is right down the road. Will 100% stay here again, as it really added to our overall experience. Don’t forget to pack a towel and toiletries!
2024 Update: We just had our second stay at the Hiker Huts, this time in Cabin “J”. While we loved the hut itself, and the bathrooms were once again very clean, we were disappointed that there was a smoking area nearby, right next to Cabin “H”. The smoke was blowing into our cabin and we had to close the window and door to prevent the smell from overwhelming us. This happened multiple times during our stay. Cross your fingers there won’t be any frequent smokers on the premises when you...
Read moreSo we flew out to the island for the weekend to visit some friends. The first day of the trip we decided to rent a car and kind of do things on a whim. We made our way out to Port Renfrew and ended up here at the Trailhead Resort. We knew that the cell service was poor and the wifi wasn’t that great. But decided to check it out. After we got our key and made our way to the room we figured that with the short amount of time we had on this trip and not having wifi or cell service at all it was too important to connect with people to set up visits and whatnot and that it wouldn’t be in our best interest to stay here. We were in the room for less than 5 minutes. We went back to the desk and explained this to the woman working. She said that she would absolutely not give us any refund and made us to feel very uncomfortable about the whole situation. She went to the back and spoke to some men and said, “these boys want a refund because there’s no cell service!” Who replied by telling us to “#%^* OFF!” Eventually after about 20 minutes of trying to reason with this woman and her telling us we NEED to disconnect. I opted to receive 100 of the 170 as return. We left Port Renfrew feeling shocked and robbed.. Disgusting customer service. Will never return nor would I recommend this...
Read moreWe ended up in Port Renfrew with no reservation and didn't do nearly enough research, and while looking for accommodations, we came across the Trailhead. They were doing reno's getting ready for the upcoming peak season so weren't fully staffed and unsure if they had availability since the guest services staff was out of cell service enroute to a neighboring town (zero cell service in the area...it is FABULOUS!!)
So the fellow we spoke to said if we wanted to go to the local pub for a half hour he would come get us if they had anything. We went to the pub, had dinner and came up with a new plan for the evening because we truly didn't expect to see him ever again.
Much to our surprise 20 mins later he walked thru the door. He didn't have a room at Trailhead for us but did find us a room at a neighboring property! Even though we didn't have the pleasure to stay at his property, the customer service he provided was over and above anything anyone could expect!!! If that speaks to the type of establishment he runs I don't think you could find a better place!
Oh!!! And they have a whale jaw!!! ...Aaaand get this..it is from an actual whale 🤣🤣🤣.
We don't know the fellow's name...but thank you a million times over from two...
