It's okay for the price you pay, here are some facts for our visit:||||Good:||1. location - very close to everything||2. attitude - employees had cool attitude. One reminded me that the water is hot and told me about things people do during day time. They are not very passionate, but at least helpful.||||Bad:||1. heating - it was chilly at night. We had to use our coats as an extra layer. However, after we told the cleaner, she gave us two blankets as well as a heater. We were very happy about that. ||2. furniture and appliances - the hotel seems to be really really old. ||3. internet is paid. You pay $5.25 per account per 24 hours for internet. The account can only be used by one device at a time. So if you are a group of two and both of you need internet you have to pay for two accounts. ||||Other things to be aware of:||1. appliances: a TV but it's very unclear; there is no kettle, but one fridge and one microwave (very useful!); one coffee maker. There are two cups and two mugs.||2. bathroom: very small towels; no toothbrush and toothpaste; the only thing they provide are: three small bottles of shampoo, two soup bar; one another kind of soup bar; two shower hats. There is a hair drier in the bathroom.||||In general, it's not a good experience, but it's not too bad either (compared with my other experience in yellowknife). You won't spend a lot of time in the...
Read moreI have never left a bad review however this place was terrible. There are some key points that may be handy for other people to be aware of before booking. |-There is no elevator and noone helped us with our bags up the stairs (5 flights) |It is also steep steps so when you are in snow shoes and gear it is really easy to fall so not good for elderly, people with injuries or pregnant. |-the room wasn't cleaned. I have attached photos taken when we arrived. There was urine on the toilet seat and blood on a pillow. |-It's above an Asian restaurant and very strong smelling (it is not apart of the hotel though, as we got caught out when we asked for a plastic fork for our room and were extremely rudely told to get out. I wouldn't have asked if i knew it was separate) |-The guy at the desk couldn't really speak English so there where lots of communication difficulties, 80% of the time he would try to talk to us from a desk up the back with his feet up, eating, watching tv. |We stayed for 3 nights out of our 3 week trip through Canada. This was the only place we didn't enjoy and if I could have my time again i would have left it out...
Read moreI’ve stayed at this local inn several times during my visits to Yellowknife and found the staff to be welcoming and the experience pleasant overall.
During my initial impressions of the area, I found it hard to gauge what my expectations are for this accommodation. Coming from Vancouver, where the hotels are of a higher quality overall (which is to be expected), I had my issues.
Over time, I appreciated the little quirks that the Inn had and the hardworking staff that filled the Inn.
Eventually, during my stay, I got to meet the Inn owner, and he was just as pleasant to speak to as the rest of his staff.
If you are looking for a real Yellowknife experience, then the Discovery Inn definitely hits that spot, with its countless years of history as a staple of Yellowknife History.
Good price point compared to the other hotels in the area run by big business, and outstanding staff that treats you...
