I called to reserve two room, and the lady who answered the phone told me she will give me a call right back. After 24 hours of not hearing back from her, I decided to book the rooms online. I did my online booking 2 weeks ahead of my stay and provided my credit card information as they require that you pay for the whole stay once you book. I received an email with my confirmation number telling me that the full amount will be charged to my credit card. The day of my flight, I printed out that same email and brought it with me. After an agonizing 9 hour flight from Ottawa due to flight delays, we arrived in Yellowknife. We walked in the lobby to find 3 people ahead of us checking in and only one very confused employee doing the check-in. After half an hour or a little more, it was our turn to check in. I got to the counter and presented the lady with the email that included all the information she needed to check us in, in addition to my ID. She ignored the email and only looked at my ID. After staring at the screen for around 10 minutes, she looked up at us to tell us that she had no record of our reservation and that they are fully booked. We asked her to look again using the confirmation number, and her answer was "this number doesn't mean anything. The reservation number that we use at the hotel is different than what the website provides you". I urged her to read the email, and she did, she also confirmed that this was in fact booked on their website, but she still had no record of our reservation in her computer. As this was taking place, another person came downstairs from his room complaining that his room stinks like smoke although he had booked a non smoking room. Apparently he had the same issue as we did, but lucky for him she was able to find him a room. Finally at around 11 o'clock the lady apologized and told us that there is nothing she can do and suggested that we go try another hotel, and to call back to get reimbursed if any charges showed on my credit card . We left the hotel lobby at 11 pm in -40 weather and started walking around looking for a hotel that had vacancy for the night. Lucky for is, the third hotel we tried had two rooms left and we were saved from having to spend the night on the streets of Yellowknife. This is the story of the awesome Yellowknife Inn, I left a lot of details, such as the pets that were running around the lobby and the drunken lady who was walking around in the lobby harassing the people who were waiting for their shuttle. Save yourself the humiliation and stay anywhere...
Read moreI'm not certain where to start with this review. I would say that one of the few positives about this hotel is the staff, as they are all quite friendly. There is also an airport shuttle free of charge.
The check-in process was relatively painless, and we were glad to have someone to rest for a few hours before going for dinner. However, upon entering the room, we realized that it was far too hot. Check the thermostat - it's broken. My partner went downstairs to get someone to come check on the baseboard heaters and thermostat. Someone did come from maintenance, but after waiting a few hours, we realized it did not solve the issue.
We went downstairs to mention it to reception - the person working the desk was different than earlier in the day, and she seemed flustered. She asked if we had adjusted the thermostat. No, because it's not functioning at all. I had to politely push for a new room. The idea that one wasn't immediately offered to me after dealing with 25+ degrees C for several hours if mind-boggling.
Now, for the rooms themselves. They're old and tired. It's obvious that the rooms had been retro-fitted from larger ones. Cleanliness is an issue. I prefer not to see other people's hair on my towels and linens, nor unknown dried liquids on the wallpaper. Everything seems... off. The fitted sheets are slightly too small, and the shower head is even too low for someone like me who is just over 5.5 feet. It's as if it was put together haphazardly.
As for check-out, it was uneventful. However, it was deeply concerning to me that baggage was put into a storage room/area without identifying tags. What if, like me, a person has sensitive documents or valuables? Would someone else be able to take my laptop bag and walk right out the door with it?
There are very few options in Yellowknife, but if you can, I suggest you...
Read moreThe ladies handling reception were polite, friendly, and efficient. The bed was comfortable and room was clean. I felt safe as there was ample security guards walking the hotel and up and down the street. Older building that doesn't have built in AC; however, they do have standalone ac unit for added comfort. (Hotel needs to clean the filters on the AC units as they are dirty).
However, we didn't have hot water on the first night. I understand in small town that maintenance guy isn't on site He came early the next morning and it was fixed by 9am thankfully. Also, theres a lot of locals and homeless population loitering and you can hear them yelling, swearing and fighting from inside the room (I was on 4th floor). It stopped around 11pm. At 1am the fire alarm went off in the hotel and the mall attached to hotel. It sounded like alarms from ground zero. Its fine, I understand alarms xan go off. No big deal. But it took the firefighters close to an hour to turn them off. Finally able to go back inside around 2am. At 230am, east Indian security guard was walking up and down the hall and speaking loudly on the telephone.... like, don't patrol at night in the halls if youre taking a personal call.... people r sleeping.
Parking is street parking and car needs to be moved at 8am. All in all, don't stay here if you want to take a relaxing vacation. Choose a...
