The town of Tarrafal is horrible - squalid and over-run with stray dogs. The hotel itself faces the wrong way - although it is near the harbour, the terrace overlooks derelict buildings rather than the sea. One or two rooms have proper windows, but the majority have tiny frosted glass apertures too high to see out at all. Without any daylight or view, it felt as if I was in jail. Each room had faults, most of which centred around the fact that things were not anchored down or placed correctly. For instance, my shower cubicle was not fixed at all, so fell over with me in it from time to time; my friend's toilet was positioned in such a way that she had to put her feet in the shower tray when using it. Breakfast was painfully obviously rationed - one roll each and no second helpings - and was served on the terrace where stray dogs with open sores begged for food. But the staff were friendly, and the beach was nearby, so it...
Read moreThe room is spacious and big but very rundown. The bathroom was falling into pieces, the shower water would accumulate due to wrong inclination, the towel racks are almost non existing, the tiles seem to be unfinished. The room has an AC unit that doesn't function with the termostat so it's either on or off which is annoying at night as it gets cold, then too hot, etc and wakes you up constantly. The fridge does work but the TV showed no channels at all in good condition, not even national tv. Breakfast is fresh and has an offer of bread, cheese and ham, american coffee and milk, some fruit (papaya when we were there) and some jams and butter, so very simple.||The linen had holes and wasn't thouroughly white although it seemed to be washed.||Tarrafal is very small so an easy walk to all the central locations and the best beaches we visited while...
Read moreI cannot praise the Cachoeira Hotel staff enough for their hospitality and friendliness!||My four friends and I stayed there for five memorable days. I had initially booked a double room but when I saw the view of Monti Graciosa from one of the suite, I knew I wanted to have breakfast on the balcony with that view everyday and upgraded on the spot.||I would particularly like to thank Osmar, the affable receptionist who gave us such good tips on what to do on the island, he even taught us some word in Portuguese! He did not even laugh at our awful accents.||The only thing criticism (constructive criticism) is that I wish the hotel had a restaurant..||||I will...
