What I liked most at this place is its "big common room" which was just a great place to hang out especially in daytime when it was quite hot to be in my 5-bed dorm room (but which was "nicely air conditioned" in the evening after about 5 pm or so), and also great in the dorm room itself was the "super-sized" lockers (really some of the biggest ones among those at all the hostels I've ever stayed at!). The breakfast was fairly basic, but the coffee & the cheese slices I would say were "above average".||||As for food & some everyday items nearby, there's a food court & an indoor market located side-by-side at just a few-minute walk from this place (across the street right in front then just a short walk to the right), and going farther past those two along the same street to the end followed by a right turn will take you to the big shopping mall called Mall Plaza with a big food court (where you can find "quite miscellaneous" stalls including the well-known ones like McDonald's & KFC) and also the big "Walmart-type" store called Lider.||||As for hanging out on the beach (and taking good long walks), there's Chinchorro Beach or more accurately the south end of that beach at just about a 10-minute walk from this place although getting there is somewhat of an inconvenience (across a road, down a stairway, then across another road) and also on the downside is not one ideal for swimming (with a pretty shallow water). There is one great for swimming (but not much for a long walk with just a short length) which is El Laucho Beach but one you'll have to take a cab to from this place (about 40 minutes by walking).||||Also great about this place if arriving by bus is its proximity from the bus terminal at just about a 10-minute walk away (to the left after coming out of the terminal, then across the main street, then a right turn at just the first street after the main street, then just a bit less than 5 minutes when you'll see this place to your left). ||||And lastly but actually "most importantly", my great thanks are to Ross the owner for his "great hospitality" (as I really "felt like home" during my 10-night stay here) and also for helping me quite a bit with my sightseeings while in Arica such as booking my Parque Lauca tour and having ready a "detailed instruction sheet" for getting to the sites in & around town (such as the nice mummy museum in Azapa Valley and the Port's area for fishing vessels to see lovely pelicans...
Read moreThis place is awesome. Ross, the owner makes you feel very welcome as soon as you arrive. This place is basically a big home, so it's very cosy. Location is perfect, close to the national and international bus terminals, supermarkets, beach, banks and local buses to centre. 25 mins walk to central Arica, which is nothing really. Breakfast is superb. The best bread I've had in South America in 3 months of travel through Arg, Brazil, Peru and Chile. Plenty of fruit, cereal, teas and coffee. Dorm rooms have great single beds instead of bunks and all the bathrooms are clean and function well. The WiFi is good. It's a hostel for relaxing really, but most people who go to Arica are looking for that. Arica is quiet, but when you've come from the hectic Cusco or San Pedro, it's a great place to chill and recharge and get yourself ready for the next leg of the trip. I would not stay anywhere else in...
Read moreWhere do i even start? First of all, location is perfect. Located near bus station and in a safe area. 5 mins walk to the beach. Market across the road where you can shop for groceries, and there is also a food court with good food. Big supermarket and mall nearby. The room is clean and sheets smell fresh. Towels are provided. Showers are cleaned everyday. Breakfast provided every morning. There is also a rooftop where you can watch the sun set over Arica. And the most important of all, the hospitality of the hosts. Beatriz welcomed me warmly and Ross helped me out with booking a tour to the national park, also let me stay longer to wait for my night bus. Really appreciate it! Wished i could have...
