I have been backpacking for a year and a half and I've stayed in many a grim hostel. The fact that this place is fairly clean is really the only thing going for it. I'm all about earplugs, but no earplugs can withstand the horrors of this establishment. The party went on until well after 3am, with the heart of the party happening DIRECTLY outside the windows of the rooms. "Ah well, at least I can sleep in," I thought. Oh no. Just before 7am the noise started again, with whom I believe were volunteers cackling whilst putting out breakfast. There is no sleep to be had here at all. ||||The service was also abysmal. Too many volunteers leads to an absence of responsibility and ownership, in addition to a general lack of knowledge. I waited for 20 minutes to check in thanks to a lackadaisical girl at the desk flighting about the hostel with her friends instead of helping the growing line of arrivals. ||||I unfortunately booked for two nights, and on my second afternoon in town I returned to news that I was supposed to have moved rooms in the morning (was not informed of this by the girl who checked me in) and as such my stuff was unceremoniously moved off into a corner while I was away. ||||In the morning, just for one last kick in the face, I woke up early to use the restroom and was accosted to pay again despite having paid for everything when I checked in. Despite being half awake, it was demanded I go and get my receipt to prove it. Thanks for that.||||I have since moved to El Arbil II - Beach and it is fantastic. Don't waste your...

Read moreI'm in two minds about this place. When we first got here, they accommodated us into rooms even though we didn't have a booking. They gave us a map, showed us where to go and showed us the facilities.|There is a rooftop terrace, bar/tv room, kitchen, and courtyard. |The rooms are reasonably good, although they do get hot at times. ||There was some confusion with my bed, as i found someone sleeping in it when i came back from the beach. They just moved me to a different bed, rather than disturb sleeping beauty.|The breakfast isn't great, with poor bread and tasteless fruit, but then again it's free.|The kitchen can get really cramped, so either cook early in the evening or late at night.|It doesn't appear to be an English speaking hostel, but rather principally seeks Spanish speaking patrons (which is fine, just and FYI).|Rooms were cheap for La Serena (9000P).|Beer in fridge was flat and 2 months out of date, which is a bummer as you can't bring booze in.|It's a handy location, and nice to kip in for a day, but kind of glad I'm...
