Hotel Diego de Almagro La Serena — Hotel in La Serena

We are Canadian Snowbirds who’s wings take them well pass Florida into Chile to spend our Canadian Winters. Living near the Ocean in Canada we make a point to visit La Serena each trip. As we have been staying in... de Almagro hotels when and where possible we booked this location near the Beach. You cannot imagine the delight we expressed when we opened the door to #703. We ordered an appropriate Sauvignon Blanc which the hotel had to celebrate our gift.. a corner room with the larger windows facing the Beach. Slept like a log that night, serenaded by the sound of the ‘endless motion moving to and fro..’. Nena and Fredrick.. that should date us! The hotel is spotless, ozzes it’s newness, extremely well designed, great use of high grade wood. The Lifts are not one but 3 aligned .. now that’s an innovative mode of construction... seconds to wait for next Lift. The staff members for those we had occasion to encounter were very cordial and presented a very genuine friendly manner... they would be great examples for other hotels to emulate. Breakfast was included ..makes good business sense to do this... scrambled eggs were available and beneath a source of heat, not like our last hotel in Santiago... to keep the food hot. For us northerners we do not eat sweets for breakfast rather enjoy our eggs, toast (Yes to the Toasters), juice, fruit and REAL coffee. Alas the one flaw for this De Almagro .. that horrible excuse for coffee know as N xxxxxxx. Just add hot water and stir. We though it had finally disappeared as a morning offering. We still come prepared with our own ground coffee. If seeking a Great Hotel in La Serena do not fail to consider this specific Diego de Almagro.Kudos to Management and Staff for A Wonderful Stay...

I stayed here several nights as part of an eclipse tour package and have a number of problems with this hotel. I like orange juice at breakfast; but they actually served sugar-sweetened orange drink. Bad! The breakfast itself was fair given this is not an expensive hotel. We had catered meals which were also just fair. We ran into other guests in the lobby who chose to eat out rather than have a meal there.||||Second, there was usually maybe one English speaker at the desk so it was difficult getting help. And if you called down to the desk; you were often on a long hold if you wanted help in English.||||In our case, the phone in our room did not ring when called so we could not get a wake-up call. These were not fancy phones with extra buttons, but rather a common everyday phone that could be easily replaced. They said they would take care of it but nothing was done after 2 days. I finally took the phone to the reception and asked them to get a replacement, maybe from an empty room. They did nothing. THIS IS NOT SERVICE!!!||||There were also no wash clothes, hand cream, or tissues as others have noted here. ||||The hotel offers an exercise room, but it is limited to exactly 3 machines with no weight machines nor free weights. ||||Bottom line, I WOULD NOT RETURN. Maybe if you spoke Spanish the staff would be...

Es la primera vez que visitamos el hotel en La Serena pero si hemos estado en el de Castro, Santiago (Aeropuerto), Rancagua, Concepción y Talca, este hotel tiene excelente ubicación, sin vista al mar (o muy poco como en mi habitación) cuenta con 9 pisos, estacionamiento pequeño subterráneo, 3 ascensores, restaurante amplio y opcion de terraza, piscina pequeña, hay que solicitar hora para usarla, pequeña zona de juego de niños (1 solo juego), el baño del hotel está al fondo del hotel, pasado el restaurante, creo que es lo más incómodo del hotel, bien aseado, las habitaciones son cómodas y tienen aire acondicionado, cuentan con TV, closet y caja de seguridad, buena cantidad de enchufes, cortinas gruesas y visillos, un escritorio y 1 sofa (el de mi habitación está desgastado y no es nada de cómodo) baño amplio, el aseo de las habitaciones bien, solicité una cuna y me la facilitaron. Respecto a las comidas, el desayuno es buffet que incluye pan, frutas, lácteos et y lo que más destaco es que de pastelería tenían dulces de la ligua me da la impresión, muy ricos También cenamos en el hotel en 2 oportunidades y la primera noche alcanzamos bistec y Salmón con papas fritas, llegamos muy cerca del cierre del restaurante y era la única opcion, la segunda oportunidad llegamos más temprano y pudimos pedir a la carta, los ñoquis deliciosos pero me hubiese gustado que tenga opciones de salsa (creo que sabe mejor con boloñesa en vez de queso) además pedimos 1 Salmón con papas fritas, y se demoraron muchísimo tiempo, más de 1 hora, el restaurante no estaba lleno pero quizás le dieron preferencia a Colo Colo que estaba hospedado en el hotel. A modo personal, el momento más incómodo fue el día sábado cuando tratamos de ingresar al hotel, estaba toda la hinchada de Colo Colo a la entrada y se hizo imposible entrar con nuestro vehículo, lo tuvimos que dejar en la calle, estaban tirando pirotecnia y estaban arriba de las rejas, de parte del hotel no hubo ninguna ayuda, llame muchísimas veces para obtener información de cómo entrar y después de unos 10 intentos al fin respondieron pero solo se desmarcaron del asunto y que debíamos esperar... veníamos de un viaje largo y con 3 niños pequeños no podíamos esperar horas hasta que se retiraran los hinchas así que nos acercamos al portón y habían carabineros que nos abrieron un poco el portón y pudimos entrar. El Hotel debería contar con otro ingreso o no recibir este tipo de delegaciones, o en última instancia tener plan de acción para los huéspedes, porque no puede ser posible que quedes a la deriva...
