Hotel Serena Plaza — Hotel in La Serena

The pool was great but I was suspicious as to how clean it was. Our room was worn out, but clean, located on the third floor, no elevator. The first ting I noticed arriving was that the minibar was empty, I belive that this was because the staff has not figured out what its for. Also watch out for the bed sheets made of wool, they smelled so bad we had to put them in the closet for our whole stay! Actually these bed sheets is a local custom to this region. Wifi was free but only worked in the hotel lobby. ||||Hotel is located right beside the beach but everthing interesting in La Serena is about a half an hour, an hour walk from the this hotel so bring good shoes. ||The breakfast was average and also the dinner in the hotel resturant the first day. One of the better resturants in La Serena was Martin Fierro, great place and service, se my review. || ||The staff was friendly but the overall service, there was no service, you have to ask staff for eggs at the breakfast, cheapos. Especially one of the receptionists was very creepy, he made you feel uncomfortable when asking questions, like he was bothered to...

We chose the hotel for its inviting website, however the reality turned out to be very different. The first room we were offered had not been cleaned properly so we asked for another. It too, on closer inspection was dirty and stained. The hallway and room reeked of cigarette smoke and they couldn't offer non-smoking rooms. The bathroom which was equally dirty displayed an out-of-date hygiene inspection sticker. The sheets and blankets which also smelled of stale smoke were old and worn. The room had an empty fridge which was noisy and had to be turned off as well as a rusty oil radiator. One closet door was hanging by a loose hinge.||Outside in the grounds, there is a gym which operates from 08:30 to 23:00 so forget a lie-in. In any case the rooms are so badly insulated that the alarm calls for other guests will wake you anyway.||The breakfast was uninteresting and was served on a dirty table cloth along with dirty cutlery.||We were booked for 2 nights but left after the first.||In short, a...

This is a htoel that I wouldn;'t rave about nor would I say anything really negative about it. It is a long walk to the center of La SErena but it is next to the beach but quite a walk along the beach to the beach restaurants and activities. The staff was cold, unfriendly and not helpful. The floors of the hotel needed to be reglued as they are popping up. But the hotel rooms are average size. The last morning we did not have hot water and the staff didn't really care. It's a fine place if you aren't going to spend time in your room. The pool area looked lovely. The breakfast was averagve and nothing much to write about. Overall, I would stay again but only if I didn't have any other options or if the price is right.
