The location is perfect: a 10-minute stroll to the downtown core and 20 minutes to the beach, ideal for exploring. The bed and pillows? Pure bliss – we slept like royalty. The breakfast, handmade by the host Maria Angelica, was a highlight, with fresh, custom dishes served at our preferred time. But Maria Angelica herself stole the show. Cannot say enough about our boutique hotel in La Serena, called "Primera Hacienda." Incredibly lovely with just 8 rooms. The owner grew up in the house, which was built by her grandfather. She and her husband have created an oasis in the middle of the city, where we felt like royalty. The dining room toward the back of the property is their newest addition, where they serve amazing dinners (for guests of the hotel only) cooked by her husband, Roberto. I booked this hotel through hotels.com, and they charged me over a hundred dollars more than the agreed amount, according to my credit card statement.

I cancelled my booking before the expiration date. They have yet to send my refund as of late January. I tried to call them, but of course they won't answer.

I normally don't write reviews, but I am very angry at the fact that they decided to keep my $600, despite the fact that I followed the policies and their rules.
