It's all about the location. The hotel is a 2 minute walk from the cable car entrance or the footpath taking you up to the Wall. Booking into the hotel means that you can drive all the way up to the hotel and parking is free so you don't have to get on the shuttle bus. You can visit the Wall by night which is more much comfortable and less crowded than during the day. Alternatively, as you are right at the entrance you can get up early and avoid the crowds. You can buy tickets for the cable car at the hotel (CNY20 each) and entrance to the Wall if you're walking up is already included in your room rate. The hotel itself is spread over a number of buildings and there is a decently maintained kids playground in the complex. The reception staff were very helpful when it came to getting tickets and so on. Rooms are basic but big enough and clean enough. Breakfast was typical for a hotel at this room rate. Overall, excellent value and with the playground and how easy it is to visit the Wall, a great choice for families. Lots of steps between the buildings, so bring a couple of small suitcases instead of...

Read moreStayed here for a night when visiting the Great Wall. It couldn’t be much closer tbh. There’s a big car park, the reception is in the main block, our room was in an annexe which had plenty of steps to access. Rooms are compact and simple, but clean and well maintained. There was an effective air con unit, very important in the winter! Chinese programmes only on the large tv, the refreshments were decent, though there were only glasses, no mugs. Slippers and plenty of toiletries in the bathroom which featured a powerful shower unit. We had luncheon in the restaurant, and very good it was too, the mountain mushrooms were fantastic. In the evening we enjoyed a formal dinner in the private dining room. The food was excellent again, especially the pork, pickled veg and tofu specialty popularised in the Qing dynasty. This hotel is very convenient, and a great option to stay at when your visiting the Great Wall. In fact our hotel room cards also acted as an entrance ticket...
