We needed a hotel for one night because of the time overnight between flights. Hotels in the vicinity of the airport were too expensive for us, had unfavorable reviews, or were located in awkward areas for transport to the airport and access to restaurants and shops.||||Sanyuanqiao metro stop was a convenient ride on the Airport Express (25 yuan, about 20 minutes ride from Terminal 3 and about 30 minutes from Terminal 3). We decided to try the Orange Hotel Select because of the price and favorable reviews. (Note that some on-line maps place the hotel in the wrong location: it is on the other side of the 3rd Ring Road, approximately opposite Phoenix City which contains the Galleria mall and restaurants. Furthermore, the Google street map and the satellite map do not correspond precisely when you switch from one to the other.)||||The staff we dealt with at reception were pleasant, cooperative and helpful, especially Olive who processed our checking out. There was always someone who spoke English well, and they gave us the type of room that we requested.||||Our larger room on the 11th (top) floor was crisp, clean, modern and well-maintained. It was at the back overlooking a parking area, rows of low-rise apartment buildings and the city skyline toward the China International Exhibition Center in the distance. When we arrived, the room had two peaches as a welcome gesture. Reception had both more peaches and also oranges.||||To turn on electricity to the room, place a key card flat in the alcove in the wall at the side of the door as you enter. When you enter the room, music plays from an iPod dock near the television. You can stop the music using the on-off switch on the remote control sitting on the dock.||||The entrance area of the room had a tile floor, a sitting area with a sofa and a floor lamp in the corner. A wash basin was opposite the sofa and had soap, toothbrushes, combs and shower caps.||||The windows were double-glazed, openable and effectively omitted outside noise. They had both privacy and room darkening curtains. The latter were operated by a remote control with buttons for open-stop-close.||||The flat screen TV had 54 channels, all in Chinese except the CCTV News channel. Under the television was a cabinet with a fridge with beverages for purchase and (green) tea making facilities, but no coffee, sugar, creamer or free bottled water.||||The king-size bed was firm and the four pillows soft, all of which we found reasonably comfortable. Each side of the bed had a bedside table and lamp; one table had a telephone. Room lights were controlled from a touch panel on the wall either side of the bed and provided different room lighting effects.||||A work desk had a lamp and various ports and electrical outlets built-in and under a cover panel. A stool was stored under the desk; however, is caused a minor inconvenience when it was pulled out for use: it blocked the space at the end of the bed for gaining access to the bathroom. The WiFi worked reasonably.||||The room had a small, square aquarium with one Siamese fighting fish. We were told that housekeeping changed the water each day and fed the fish every three days. Apparently, they are all called Iris. Also included was a Rubik's cube with information in Chinese.||||The small, separate bathroom had a toilet and a spacious shower stall (no bath) with a telephone shower and dispensers attached to the wall for liquid body wash and shampoo. The hot water service worked well.||||The air conditioning operated from a touchpad on the wall. It worked quietly, but for some reason stopped for a period during the night.||||The room suffered from the usual deficiency of almost all hotel rooms: it admitted noise from the corridor. Fortunately, half our floor was occupied by the offices of a construction firm and there seemed little activity, so it was quiet. The room did not have a safe for leaving valuables.||||To get to the hotel, leave Sanyuanqiao metro-subway-Airport Express station using the "D South-West Exit". The best reference locations are "Phoenix Place" or "Phoenix City", "Novotel" and "Ibis". Find the front of the Novotel and follow the drive which turns at the left of the hotel. Continue until it reaches a T junction. The Ibis hotel will be to your right. Turn left and follow the street, which will turn right, as far as another T junction. On the left-hand corner will be the "Fukunoya Japanese Restaurant" in front of which will be an open-air, streetside pavement restaurant. Walk left towards N. 3rd Ring Road E, Beisanhuan Donglu. At the T junction, to your right you will see a pedestrian overpass bridge, which has ramps as well as stairs. Use the overpass to get to the other side of the Ring Road. The street immediately to your right at the exit to the overpass will be Jing'an East street. Follow the street past a school with a large number 30 on the front and past a branch of the Bank of China. The hotel will be 30-40 feet along on your right. The hotel has Malan Noodles Fast Food restaurant on one side, a convenience store on the other and a 711 store across the street. Rolling bags behind us, the walk took 20-25 minutes from the exit to the station to hotel reception.||||We noticed on a map that there is a Carrefour hypermarket on Jing'an West street, which runs parallel to and a long block from Jing'an East street on which is the hotel. We did not have time to go there so cannot...
Read moreThe best property of this hotel is its situation close to the exhibition hall (CIEC).||The room is enough small. The sink is placed in the hall close to the wardrobe. The shower room is like aquarium, glass wall allows to be watched by your partnet who is lying at the same time on the bed. It is like a show! But the most interesting place in the hotel is the restaurant! It will be difficult to find there a restaurant, because it is absent! There is just a room with 10 tables. You will be given at the reception one coupon (15 RMB) and you should go to the room called a restaurant, find a waitress (who doesn't speak and understand English), give her a coupon and in some minutes you will be treated with a breakfast. You shouldn't wait for a fantastic breakfast! every day you will have the same menu which contains one boiled egg, one glas of orange juice or milk (if you want to order juice and milk, your request will be denied), one sandwich, one banana, one small bowl of some special rice soup without salt, peper, just rice and water! No taste at all! We tried to improve its taste, so we used to add the boiled egg into the rice soup to start its eating!Horrible! It is student's canteen, but not a restaurant! I would advice to have breakfast at any cafe or restaurant which are close to the hotel! But the most horrible thing for me was that fact that there are only 2 people form the staff who speak English! We didn't speak Chinese and nobody from the staff at the reception spoke English! We had problem by checking out, because nobody could explain what they wanted! And also I didn't like the situation when I prolonged the staying for 6 hours and payd the total sum for day and night and I was disturbed many times during these hours only with one question - at what time I am going to leave the hotel! I would remind you that the staff at the reception don't speak English! I don't recommend this hotel for anybody! They should improve skills of the staff at the reception! meal at the so called "restaurant"!and...
Read moreAfter a dreadful experience with Novotel Beijing Sanyuan (being told I had cancelled my booking when I certainly had not, and being turned away - never ever to return to any Novotel) I luckily discovered Orange Hotels and for that I am extremely grateful! The Orange Hotel Sanyuanqiao is fun and stylish. The staff couldn't have been more helpful, welcoming and friendly. The room I had was not too large but very adequate, comfortable and even fun. It's located quite centrally, within walking distance of the Forbidden City, for a fit person, and there are plenty of convenient stores even across the street. Also not too far from the Airport, and a taxi/uber will get to you in about 3 minutes. It's probably more a hotel for young or young-at-heart guests, but for someone who loves variety, fresh ideas and style and art and excellent customer service it was ideal I couldn't have been happier and the experience really made my stay in Beijing a...
