We enjoyed our one night stopover in Terry’s guest house. In that time we only saw one person who looked like a tourist. So different from a generic hotel room. Terry is an excellent communicator and makes every effort to ensure guests choose a blue Lantau taxi as drivers know exactly where to drop guests, unlike city drivers. ||It is a little trek down the concrete pathway to the guest house and Ngau Au Village but this adds to its point of difference. Our room was small, functional but very clean. The small balcony looking towards the new housing estates and the mountains is a delightful place to sit after a long flight. Yes the bed is firm, but we found it reasonably comfortable. ||We walked 15 minutes to Yat Tung Estate to eat at night, and while it is not a fine dining experience, there is lots of local stalls to chose from and if all else fails a McDonalds upstairs in the shopping centre. We had a reasonable long black and latte there for breakfast. The local wet market is worth exploring. It is indoors and has colourful displays of meat; cooked and uncooked, fish; live and dead, plus fruit and vegetables, tofu and lots more. ||In an afternoon and morning we walked to two of the locations recommended by Terry. While neither are must do activities, we were able to mix with the locals and observe the daily| rhythms of life, including the morning tai chi sessions, dog walking, wharf fishing, street side haircuts, an elderly couple loading supplies on an old “bum” boat and the evening chats in the housing estate common areas. ||We recommend Terry’s guest house to those who want to get away from the vanilla chain hotels that are his competitors. Thanks Terry for checking on our safe arrival, calling our taxi and helping my wife with here bag on the winding concrete pathway back to the entrance to...

Read moreTerry and City Oasis were wonderful! If I could rate this stay more then 5 stars I would. Terry was super helpful and responsive via messaging app to my millions of questions. He supplied thorough directions with pictures and gave good tips on how to travel Hong Kong. Terry provided fresh water for me on arrival, showed me the roof top (which had an amazing view). Service was superb!
Room was very cute and clean, had its own shower and everything, which I definitely wasn’t expecting as someone who stays in hostels a lot.
The location was perfect for myself and plans in Hong Kong. I was hiking the Lantau Peak in the early morning and the location provided easy access to the trail without having to purchase or worry about transportation. Getting to the city with Terrys directions was pretty straightforward but does take time. About an hour to an hour and a half to get to the main action. I also liked that I could be in the city all day and then come back and sleep at a quiet little place.
Note - this location isn’t for everyone, it’s a bit off the beaten path so you do need to walk about 5-7 minutes from any taxi drop off or bus station. To me this was a part of the fun and what made this...
