The Hau Wong Temple in Tung Chung is one of the oldest buildings on Lantau Island. You can conveniently pass by the temple in route to the trailhead of the Ngong Ping Rescue Trail. It is along the route from Tung Chung MTR Station and next to a children's playground facing the sea.
Believed to have been built in 1765, this is a small temple with three interior halls. The centre hall has an important traditional bronze bell engraved in the date of the 30th year of Emperor Qianlong. You will find traditional hanging incense, shrines with deities, leather drum and other interesting things to see. The exterior facade is showing its age. The murals and roof ceramics are dated and possibly in need of a bit of restoration.
