Everyone is saying the price is affordable. I am sorry to differ. I stayed here for 30 days. And the price is $16,800, including extra $4000 for bringing a pet along with me. I don’t think the experience I had here justify the price I paid. No shampoo, toothbrush, water, slippers, soap, tissue paper is provided to long stay guests. Only 2 days of house keeping service a week is provided. What’s worse, they only provide it during office hours in weekdays if I am in the room. That means I constantly miss out the house keeping service because I have to work. I asked the staff if they can accommodate my schedule, they said if everyone requests so, it would be difficult for them handle. They could have ask if I have a preference before arranging the room keeping service lol. The amount of bugs here is disturbing. There were constantly flies and mosquitoes in the room, and a dead worm or two lying on my room’s floor. I can always see big ass cockroaches crawling around the hotel (lucky not inside of the buildings) at night. When I walked my dog, I had to be careful for the red ants. There are A LOT of red ants. This is probably not the hotel’s fault. After all, the hotel is surrounded by the nature lol. Just don’t come if you hate bugs. The room I stayed in is a standard one. The design is not as classic/vintage as the photos I saw on their website. The furnitures are old and cheap. No smart TV of course. The bathroom is so small that I thought I was living in a subdivided unit. The mini fridge was so noisy to the point that it disturbed my sleep. The wall and ceiling are not soundproof. I could tell people staying on the second floor were having sex or not. I could hear the couple staying next to my room every night. I hate the stairs! It was so much to me. Even the delivery man told me they almost died lol. I always pay them extra tips because I felt so sorry for them. This is the least accessible hotel I have ever been to. Especially in the rainy days, so many branches and leaves on the stairs, it’s quite dangerous. Do not bring disabled person/elderly here. The self served laundry here is so pricy. $66 for one time. You have to prepare the detergent and softener by yourself lol. Super inconvenient… The common area mentioned on their website is another disappointment. I thought it’s a chill little area just like all the other hotel. Turns out it’s a small room shared with the staff and cleaning ladies. If you stay in this hotel, you have to adjust your expectation. There’s nothing fancy there. It’s more like a camp site or youth hostel without sharing a room...
Read moreThe Heritage Lodge is a hotel complex in historic buildings on the top of a green hill, surrounded by several busy streets. The way to that property is hard to find; nowhere are signs directing towards that hotel. Here a small help: Use the exit B of the Mei Foo MTR station and follow the signs to the “Jao Tsung-I Academy”. This academy is situated at the foot of that hill. From there stairs and elevators lead to the hotel. Unfortunately, the reception with a friendly and helpful service is at the most upper level. Both, the academy and the hotel belong to the same building complex that served in the history as prison, as centre for disease control and as care home for psychiatric patients. The way up is quite long. However, I enjoyed the daily hiking exercise. Despite the hill was surrounded by busy streets, the hotel area itself was pretty quiet. The room was clean and spacious. The only issue in that room was the unstable supply of hot water – during showering we had to readjust significantly the temperature of the water repeatedly, which was very annoying. The only real negative issue was the provided breakfast: It was, politely said, ridiculous, a rip-off! For around 15 USD (120 HKD) one got a small bowl of cereals, a small cup of tea or coffee and not even a full sandwich, a slice of bacon, an egg and a bit salad. No possibility of getting more was suggested; we left the place almost hungry. No wonder, that we were the only ones there! Many others bought their breakfast at the café (“Workshop Café”) in the entrance room of that building (the hotel breakfast was provided in a more hidden room behind that café). Others might have eaten somewhere else as we did the following days after that disappointing experience from the first morning. Despite the issues with the breakfast and the hot-water supply, I can recommend the hotel for people who are physically fit. There is also a free shuttle bus service. However that bus is running just from 9.30 am until about 6.30 pm approx. once every hour. And the bus stop near the exit B of the Mei Foo MTR station is a bit hidden around the corner at a gas station. Another stop of that shuttle bus is near Lai Chi Kok MTR station (exit...
Read moreBlimey, it literally took our breath away to get to the lodge! Not ideal for travellers with many or heavy baggages as it is a climb to get to the top where the rooms are. Although there was an elevator to take you up halfway, it can be tedious in the hot and humid months.
As we made our way to the “summit”, there were many reading materials - on-going promotions like exhibits, restaurants etc on the walls and in the elevator for all to see. Don’t put the blame on the staffs for the lack of information, as it’s all out there if you were to slow down and take the time to read. The surrounding was so serene and picturesque during the day and night in particular and yet not too far from the hustling and bustling. Many eateries to dine at the nearest train station - Mei Foo; prior to heading back to the hotel if the restaurant in the grounds of the hotel i closed.
The room was basic, dated; in need of a make over but spacious. Air-conditioning was a tad weak but doable as it was still cooling at the time of our visit. Given it’s surrounded by greenery, bugs come with it but thankfully not in the rooms.
The highlight of this property for me was the animals they call this place home. The felines are loved and cared for but the stray dogs aren’t which is a let down but I hope management will come around to rescuing them one day so they are contained and not run out on the highway to look for food.
Despite the hike up to the living quarters everyday throughout our almost week stay, we loved every moment of it - waking up to the birds chirping away, cats patrolling the grounds, the weight loss or not an ounce of weight gain from the climb. This place is a gem and pleased to see it was converted to a hotel than more high rise buildings which HK...
