Two words - Disappointment and Deprivation!
We booked the Club Access room for celebrating our wedding anniversary, hoping that it would be a romantic and enjoyable stay; unfortunately, it was not a pleasant experience at all.
First, the hotel was with extremely high occupancy rate which the whole operation, in all aspects, cannot accommodate. Almost 2 hours just to be checked-in. The express check-in and check-out services were not available in M Club. By the time we got the room key, it was like 4pm.
Second, during the check-in progress, we were told that we have limited access time not only for the swimming pool but also for the Club Lounge access for a 45-min session only each. M Club Lounge - We were only permitted to access 45-min session for the Hors D'oerves in the evening and the next day breakfast. What is this arrangement? What is M Club? Where is that "anytime" access? Where is that complimentary light snacks through the day? We did not enjoy any "tranquil" time but rather 2 pretty "chaotic" sessions. Swimming Pool - 45 mins? hahaaaa...
Third, when we get to the room, we were stunned by the square-shaped big bathtub. We were also satisfied with the Lagoon Pool-view room. A few mins later, a staff delivered a complimentary wedding anniversary cake, we were pleased with that. However, the problem came - where can we eat the cake? Besides a bed and a long blue sofa, there was no side table nor a desk. Was that a house-keeping mistake or what? We were struggling to eat in bed or by the washbasin, as the only place for us to place the cake plate was the sink table. At last, we picked the sink table and stand there to finish our wedding anniversary cake.
Fourth, buffet dinner at Marina Kitchen - we were assigned to sit at the narrowest corridor, right by the dessert and fruits tables, where many guests pass us by as well as the staff working table right next to us. Many staff standing next to us, with their back facing us, literally just about 2-3 feet apart, as well as non-stop traffic.
Fifth. I was carrying a 20-inch luggage, a hand carry bag, and a handbag, but no bell desk staff was helping me to pull the heavy window door or loading our bags into the car. They were 2 staff there simply standing there and watching.
Conclusion: The facilities, man power and service qualities (front and back) are not capable to handle such high occupancy rate, and who are to suffer? your...
Read moreTerrible experience overall. Though the hotel is conveniently located next to the park, there was a part of the path to the hotel from the carpark that was uncovered which means you would get drenched if it was raining. The staff was impolite, not welcoming and generally seemed like you were the nuisance. The trainee at the front desk rudely told us that under no circumstances could an extra desk be opened as they did not have enough staff and everyone had to wait, and only Marriott gold members were priority even though we were traveling with a baby and asked if we could skip the line. Apparently it's our fault that we brought our baby? (So much for a child friendly hotel) We were told breakfast would be at 3 different locations and 3 different times and we needed to get a ticket to do so. We had no idea where the ticket counter was as the lady at the counter was sitting back in her chair with her arms across her body and she had made no indication that we were to retrieve a ticket from her. We requested baby amenities 3 times before it was delivered and even then the housekeeping runner told us that she was SO busy. We requested for more water and aforementioned runner knocked hurriedly and almost burst into the room at around 8 or 9ish and expressed surprise when we opened the door: "I didn't know you were in the room!" The baby tub had a strand of hair in it, the bottle sterilizer had leftover water inside it and the pack n play looked like it had been assembled hurriedly. The toilet seat in the room was sticky and the bedding had hair in it. Food at the buffet was hard, cold (ie the bacon and hash browns) and some items were left uncovered with the aircon directly blowing onto it. The male toilet in the lobby was a sight for sore eyes as the floor was covered in puddles of water and the mirrors were completely covered in water droplets. The concierge desk across from the front desk was unmanned 99% of the times, and would it hurt for front of house staff to smile a little?! Maintenance was not great, watermarks were evident on the ceilings in public areas, the doors close to the prohibition bar were leaking-hence sandbags and a bunch of towels were placed in a row on the floor, but there was no hazard sign or any kind of warning/signage. The chairs at the check in lobby were also very worn. Overall design of the hotel was very nice, however we did not have an enjoyable...
Read moreThe hotel itself is quite new so the facilities are clean and mostly new. The bathtub was very big and deep which was a nice perk. However, it was impossible to lay down or relax in the tub since it was very boxy--like, well,...a box.
My children are 6 and 10 and I just felt the hotel was lacking in anything that would appeal to them except for the pool. The pool is restricted somewhat due to the government policies. Essentially, each guest is only allowed to swim for one, one-hour time slot for each night of their booking. So, the one thing that is actually fun for kids is very limited.
The hotel has a "playroom" but it is entirely geared toward infants and toddlers. They were hosting some sort of fun carnival outside but the weather was extremely humid, hot, and rainy and the games that were prepared were not very engaging or interesting, lacked enthusiastic staff participation, required additional money to be paid, and overall seemed cheap and lack luster. It just seemed like a cheap afterthought by the hotel to try to make the hotel experience "more fun." There could have been other things added such as music or lights or anything to make it more of an engaging experience.
The hotel didn't have robes for the children--it's those little things that count. The food was lacking. And by that I mean--it was almost impossible to get any type of food in or at the hotel. We had to use food delivery--as almost every other family was doing.
I will say that the staff were quite respondent to certain needs--such as when my 6 year old needed a bandage for his toe so that improved the guest experience.
I suggest the hotel really re-think their "family package" approach. They should organize a family package promotion which includes something like "little chef" classes or a hands-on art class. This should be well-communicated to guests before their stay in the hotel and children should be encouraged to sign up and participate. The "fun carnival" was just really distasteful and sad and I don't think anyone was impressed by it.
Overall, the stay was okay. Since the pool was not accessible most of the time, I honestly didn't think there was much difference between staying at the Marriott Ocean Park and staying at another cheaper hotel that was near a public swimming pool--the experience would have...
