I have been traveling for over 10 years now and never had a single incident that I needed to get refund.||1. The location. You have to climb all the way up more than 20 mins.||2. Right after I checked in I noticed there was no toilet paper in the toilet so I asked tom for one. He just threw the toilet paper at me.||3. One of the reasons that I booked this place was the description said electronic blanket will be provided but I couldn't find one in my bed so I asked tom if I could get one. He YELLED right in my face "electronic blanket? Nobody uses it here it's hot here why you need it" It was 11 degrees. Also whether it was cold or not, shouldn't he provide what he promised to provide on the website?||He threw the blanket at me as well.||4. I found a mold on the wall next to my bed (the last bottom bunk on the left in 8 beds dorm) and a used plastic bag with seeds in it under the sheet. It was absolutely disgusting but it was 10 at night so I decided to try to sleep that night and get a refund for the next ones.||5. I woke up at 5 and wanted to get into booking.com so I can book another place. It seemed like the main wifi machine (Octoberinn) was turned off and the other wifi (shu something) did not work at all. When he finally came out I asked him politely, these were my exact words: 'it seems like you turned off the other WiFi, can you please turn it on again so we can see if it works?'||He said sometimes in the morning the WiFi doesn't work(never had any issues with using WiFi in the morning anywhere else in china) I said I understood but he turned the main WiFi machine off and maybe that WiFi would work so please turn it on. He started YELLING again walking aggressively towards me 'I said the WiFi doesn't work in the morning! You crazy! No WiFi in the morning! You stupid! No! WiFi!'||I was shocked how RUDE he was. I was still calm saying 'you don't have to yell at me. Do you understand you're being rude to me now? Can you just talk?'|| He kept yelling 'I told you already! You rude! No WiFi! Go away!'.||After that I was just done with him and his hostel. I asked for the refund and got my stuff out. ||6. While I was booking another hostel using one of the guest's Hotspot I realized he CHARGED MORE than the booking prices(10 yuan more a night). He got me a refund(threw the money at me again, of course) for the price difference but he would never have, if I didn't inform him. What a joke.||7. It was 6am when it all happened. On my way out he said 'fk you' 'south Korean bch' 'go away' 'just go' and other very unpleasant things. HE ALSO TRIED TO HIT ME. He pulled his arm up towards my face several times. I have A VIDEO FOOTAGE filmed of him in my phone which I'll post on facebook as soon as I get back in Australia.||The way he addressed himself at me was just so rude and unnecessary. I have done nothing rude or disrespectful, I only asked for what it was promised to be delivered on their description in a very polite manner.||I highly doubt he would have treated me in the same way if I was a big Caucasian male. No way. If you read all the comments you will realize only people from not western counties have had bad experiences with the owner. If you support racism and sexism or any kind of discrimination, by all means do stay in this hostel, otherwise don't let this person ruin your precious trip. I'm still traumatized. I still remember his wiggling crazy white eyes and horrible breath when he yelled at me.||I know Tom will comment to this, trying to give me a bad name and justifying his terrible behaviour. Don't fall for that. Besides his horrible behavioue the hostel is disgustingly dirty. He acts all nice when you first meet him but he has a serious mentality issue. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. DO...
Read moreWe stayed here two times for 3 nights in total in two different private rooms. Both rooms were extensivly decorated with butterflies and flowers. It's something you have to see :-D The bathrooms with western style toilet and hot shower are very clean. Beds are comfortable, clean and equipped with electric blankets. Tom, the owner, is a unique character, very friendly, helpful and proud of his hostel. He recommended several places and hikes and arranged transport to the tiger leaping gorge and the train station for us. While hiking the gorge and traveling to Shangri-La we could store our luggage for free. You can join a homemade dinner and order breakfast (not for free, but cheap). Tom even provided vegan food for us. The hostel is a good place to meet other travelers (during our stay mainly Americans). When we arrived at the airport shuttle bus station, we easily found a cab bringing us to the hostel. However, when we came back from Shangri-La no cab at the bus station wanted to drive us. Instead, a private driver wanted to bring us for 30 yuan. We did not want to support this scurill arrangement and decided to walk, which took a bit more than one hour. |To respond on the other reviews: Yes, the hostel is located outside of the oldtown on a steep hill, but this is stated in the hostelworld description and Tom wrote us an email with the Chinese adress and directions after booking. We also did not get a key to our room, but the door to the hostel was closed and Tom slept at the common room next to the entrance. Therefore, it...
Read moreMy friends and I were really disappointed with the owner because :||1. He is very rude and call us stupid!||2. He is always yelling and screaming around to people||3. If you want hot water in the morning he will make noise because we disturb him sleeping as the hot water is in his room||4. Bad breakfast only plain boiled eggs and plain bread||5. His dogs are constantly around and barks at people||6. He did not let you use the washing machine yourself and will supervise you from beginning until end. He also claimed that there are dryer but actually you are only allowed for line drying. This is a problem as he only told us after we had already washed our clothes. We have to carry the wet laundry to our next hotel!||7. He did not let you eat on the roof top but when we eat at ground floor the dogs came sniffing our food.||8. He did not know how to address people politely and keep on screaming to us like we were school kids.||Overall, we only stayed for 2 days and spent a lot of time out and try to avoid him as he was always screaming and rude. We enjoyed Lijiang Town but we have a real nightmare staying there. For info, we are Malaysians age 30-45 (we are not kids anymore), 4 of us are polite ladies and we are construction engineers in profession. We really advise Malaysians especially Muslims to avoid staying here.||||To the owner, Tom, behave or you will one day meet someone who will stand up to...
