I write this from the airport awaiting our return flight to New Zealand. This flight is an emergency one due to family health issues and could only have been possible because of the kindness and professionalism of the staff at Liman Wenzhi No. 1 Hotel. In particular special mention must go to MK for his help in securing a Chinese credit card necessary for the flight changes to be made. Interestingly it was the hotel owner who came to the rescue. The hotel reception staff were kind and empathetic to our plight providing perfectly made and poured tea plus caring words. The incredible service started before our circumstances changed with them meeting us outside the Old Town and escorting us through the labyrinthine back alleys. Check in consisted of the usual paperwork but was made memorable by a traditional tea drinking ritual. Very nice. The room was very comfortable with a nice bathroom/shower area. A heat pump took the edge off the cool night air. Lijiang itself is awesome. The hotel is a short walk to the shopping streets with multitudes of eating places and local, albeit touristic shops. The locals come out to stroll and commune lending to a festive, family atmosphere. Because our time was truncated we were only able to enjoy a stroll to the Black Dragon Pool which was very enjoyable with loads of local colour to be enjoyed along the way. After all of MK’s help he surprised us with helping us with our luggage up to meet the car to take us to the airport. When asked how much the fare would be he said it was free, their treat if you like. Simply amazing people, place and service. Highly...
Read moreInitially thought this place was amazing and the service attitude was great. Looked great. Location was excellent. Ask them a question and you’ll quickly see they are full of standardised and scripted answers with no solution. Electronic pin for the door only available via wexin (wechat). I asked whether I could get a normal swipe card cos I don’t use wechat. No. Then the internet didn’t work. We were told it would be tomorrow when they can get someone to look at it. Ok understandable. The phone didn’t work either. Included breakfast is available from 8am. Pretty unreasonable considering most hotels start serving breakfast from 6am or 7am. We came back after day 1 and were advised our door was unlocked. When I told them this was not possible because I checked! They insisted their staff saw it unlocked. Pretty poor attitude. We got back to our room and our phone and internet wasn’t working. Again they said they will get someone to look at it tomorrow. When questioned about the phone, they told us to call the front desk via the advertised main line number or use wechat. My wife used wechat and didn’t get a response so she called the main line number and got no one answered. She got dressed and went down to the front desk for no hot water to be asked “have you tried using cold?” which worked so there is hot water! Poor attitude. Destroyed what would have been a hotel worth five star. Real disappointing. STAY AWAY!! Or try the service yourself and experience the...
Read moreThis is a quaint boutique hotel with just 15 rooms overlooking a small courtyard, where we chilled drinking tea and wine in the evenings after a day of sightseeing.||||Our room was quite spacious, with a large king bed, separate bath & shower, his&her wash basins and other usual amenities. ||||The hotel is located about 250m from the main road, through some cobbled alleys. We were met at the main road by Jade (Ouyang), who helped us with our bags and led us to the hotel. At the hotel, we were treated to some pu-erh tea and Jade suggested some sights we should visit. She also helped us with the tickets to a cultural show, and arranged the transportation to the sights.||||You pick your breakfast from a menu, and they cook it for you at your desired time in the morning. The selection was not big, but the ones we picked were quite palatable.||||Lijiang Old Town, which is apparently an UNESCO Heritage site, is a maze of cobbled alleys flanked by old shops and is quite interesting. It is about a 45 second stroll from the hotel, but despite the proximity, the hotel is quite well insulated from the hustle and bustle of Old Town.||||Undoubtably, the best thing about the hotel is the attentive and friendly staff. They helped us with our taxis, tickets where necessary and even recommended restaurants in the Old Town we could try.||||We really liked the hotel, and would thoroughly recommend it to...
