Ambassador Hotel — Hotel in Shanghai

Check in was a mess. 37 of us arrived at nearly 10pm. We had been out all day having set off from Beijing that morning. As a group our passports had arrived at the hotel several hours before we did and had already been scanned. The hotel insisted on photographing each one of us, saying it was Chinese law - the only hotel of the 4 we stayed in who said this. Only one (of a reputed 3) camera was working. The 3 staff then had to cross check passports and visas individually. One member tried to get a bottle of wine and two glasses from the bar. Had problems releasing the glasses from the bar to the room (not allowed!). There were no coffee sachets in the room (again the only hotel not to have them). Wow! What an excellent experience. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable of thr area. They speak many languages so everyone can be accommodated. They break down floors by style which is awesome; I stayed on the 21st floor which is the "Japanese style" floor. Plenty of meeting spaces if you need or want to host an event of any size. They offer an absolutely stunning breakfast with a wide variety of local and American dishes. Heck, even the coffee isn't bad. They have a fully stocked hotel bar sith reasonable prices. Very convenient location in upscale Jing’an area, close to Shanghai’s commercial and financial districts. Lots of food options right outside and Starbucks is mere steps away.

Hotel is well managed, rooms are spacious and very clean.Service is very professional and efficient, with almost everyone speaking English. When we had issues with the wifi and connecting it to the phone, someone was at our door promptly.

Breakfast buffet featured both Chinese and Western food, and the in-house Chinese restaurant served delicious authentic Shanghai cuisine.
