This is a well priced hotel with reasonably comfortable rooms if a bit dark looking, accessible from the Chuansha metro station as long as you don't have too much luggage to pull along. Reason being that the footpaths in the general area are not in good condition...rough would be the word.||I've stayed in the hotel before..and I thought after my last stay that the management would be all out to capture more English speaking travellers to Shanghai...but it seems not. ||The front desk seems to function quite well and neither time have I encountered any drama..despite the obvious lack of very much english by the staff...although one of the staff , a polite young man , was helpful in conversations. ||But its the breakfast experience which really is a bit of a shocker for non Chinese travellers. During my latest stay, I experienced warm orange juice! which tasted like cheap cordial, and coffee which appeared to have used second time around coffee grounds...watery with little taste. As for the menu, it really was entirely focussed on Chinese options...with the exception of some toast, jam and croissants and maybe the overboiled eggs which didn't look too good.||Again like the previous visit, I couldn't sleep because of the noise from the restaurant that operates behind the hotel and so the staff kindly moved me up to the 5th Floor..which really wasn't much better even though it had just a tiny window this time. The strange thing is their reluctance to provide a room at the front of the hotel overlooking the street corner...at least then there would have been a view of sorts.||I had no issue with either bedroom in terms of the bathroom or the bed..it was all clean...although they must presume that guests bring their own facecloths..because there are none provided in this hotel.||However what wasn't good was the Mosquitoes...during the night despite the air conditioning working I received a number of nasty bites(6) which only now about 6 days later are subsiding. This I have to say is the first hotel in Shanghai where I have encountered this problem. Several hotels have plug in mosquitoe defeaters...||So there it is...a budget priced hotel which could be very good value if only they worked on the breakfast and made sure that the rooms...
Read moreI normally stay at the Dorsett Shanghai, but I found that hotel just a little too expensive especially for a 1 night stay. Jiahe Shangju Hotel has the advantage that it is accessible from Line 2 also of the Metro system...although because of the volumes of people using this Metro line..there is a change of trains required when coming from the East Xujing/ Hongqiao end of the line. However...just follow the crowds, and it's relatively easy to get to the metro station Chuansha from where a 10 min walk will get you to Jiahe Shangju Hotel. Note that when you reach Chuansha station..take the No 2 exit which will bring you out onto Chuanhuan Road so that you don't get disorientated finding Miaojing Road where the hotel is. Use your smart phone map to check that you are heading in the right direction! To be honest..this hotel is under-rated...they try very hard service wise...there is at least some who can communicate in broken English at the front desk...the hotel has a huge sign on its roof, which you can easily see at night, as a guide you if you are walking. Don't try walking with large suitcases though, because the pavement is a little rough in places. The rooms are okay...clean and tidy, the shower works well..and there is complementary water in the room. The bed is good enough for short stays..many guests would fine the mattress hard ..which it is...and I found room 521 a little noisey from some motor which I could hear in the room with all the windows closed...but again..for a short stop over...still not a big problem.||The hotel WiFi....full marks to the management here...the WiFi works well really well...so that's a good enough reason to try the hotel. Breakfast...although definitely slanted to Chinese tastes, it was good and is value for money...they have really tried....and the breakfast room although a simple environment, was a cheerful, friendly place...yellow table cloths...and even a bottle aquarium to look at!. ||All things considered, this hotel is definitely value for money..and it's a good alternative if you can handle a short walk from the...
Read moreI booked this hotel for our trip to Shanghai Disney as it was only a few options available. I wanted to stay at the Toy Story Hotel onsite but the prices for our timeframe were too high. The location is supposed to be near the metro but it was dark when we arrived (after 1.5 hours of subway rides from Hongqiao Railway Station) and we couldn’t find the hotel so had to take a taxi. The staff do not really know any English so relied on translation app. We asked the staff about Disney and they offered to book a taxi for the morning. Unfortunately, the breakfast only started at 7, so it doesn’t allow the early start you need for Disney. We booked a taxi for 7:20 am, but when we got there on time there was no taxi and staff seemed perplexed. We saw people running to a shuttle bus with mouse ears on so asked them and it turns out the hotel offers a free shuttle. Would have been nice if we’d been told the night before! The driver had us wait to see if there was room and luckily there was, so we got on. Beware that this is too late of a start for Disney (7:30) because when we arrived the gates were opening at 8 am and there were already hordes of people lined up (LONGEST line up of my life and one hour wait in sweltering heat!). The shuttle will pick you up at 10 but we were too late arriving at night and weren’t sure if we could find it anyhow. We took a taxi back. It’s about a 20 min. ride. We did try the breakfast and it was decent. I found enough for my Western tastes. The room itself was nice, though super hard bed per...
