I had a three day stay in Shanghai and wanted a reasonably priced room in a good location near the metro. Chichen Hotel fit the bill. The staff are quite helpful, the wifi works, and the metro is right across the street. Metro station Xiaonanmen on line 9. You can get to all the great areas of Shanghai within 10-30 minutes. There aren’t many dining options near the hotel, so eat up town. There are convenience stores within walking distance. Toilets do in fact smell a bit funky. ||They will make you a very decent cup of coffee at their lobby cafe. Not free but cheap.||I asked the young man at the desk about a massage place and how I might get there and he smiled and said I can help you with that if you like, but there’s a massage place next door. He took me over and translated...60 RMB for an hour foot massage and another 60 RMB for a hour body massage. Nothing fancy, but for about $20 US...fantastic.||Yes you can get to Chichen Hotel from Pudong airport via the Shanghai Metro (line 2 from Pudong airport to Longyang station then find connection to line 9 to Xiaonanmen Station. Download MetroMan app (Shanghai and other Chinese cities). Super easy to use. Consider using the Maglev train from the airport to Longyang Station, then transfer to the metro. Much faster. Buy a Shanghai Public Transportation card at the airport metro station (20 RMB deposit + whatever amount you want too put on the card). Maglev Pudong Airport to Longyang Station RT 80 RMB. One way 50 RMB. Lots of luggage? Metro gets crowded. Escalators and elevators not always an option. Arriving late? Metro stops running...
Read moreAs a foreign tourist in Shanghai, every review matters in platforms they don't support. So I need to give credit to his place when it's due!
For this boutique cum hostel, I felt for the price I am paying, it was way underrated!
+++ it's located at a quiet local neighbourhood There's a surprise morning market with cheap cheap Shanghai/Chinese snacks or meals you can get My private room is way spacious than the usual hotel represented for the price location location location; literally opposite of Xiaonanmen Subway Station! full hotel-like amenities provided clean room comfy king sized bed
on my 2nd night here, the water suddenly got disrupted while I was showering room was too dim in my opinion at night but good amount of natural window lighting in the morning towels have some stains and weird smell but bearable not the best front concierge but rather fast check in and they accept foreign credit cards would have been great of they have a closet or cabinet to hang proper clothes
Summary : Exterior may look run down, and so are most of the place but I personally felt this was a great find and convenient to access every point of shanghai via subway. I am a solo female traveller and I am happy with...
Read moreMy friend and I booked this hostel for a few nights before we left china, after five months of living there. we booked the cheapest rooms, which were separate, in boys and girls dorms (my friend is a boy). we were fine with this, but would have preferred to stay together out of convenience. When we checked in the greeting staff was extremely helpful, and had good English skills. They kindly offered to put us in a large room together. They presented all the information clearly, including wifi, hours, etc. They kindly stored all of our luggage, even though we took up more space than one person should typically take up, because we had all of our possessions for returning to America with us. They made it seem like no problem, though. They then walked us upstairs to our room, helping us carry our things. The room was extremely clean, and nice. The heating/air conditioning unit worked great, and the bathroom was clean. The room was huge, and was so nice to relax in. A great location, literally a few feet off of the subway. There's a mini mart across the street that was open pretty late, which was good to grab snacks and drinks at. By far our best experience at a hostel in the entire time we were in China! Highly...
