This is a decent hotel. You can stay comfortably here and the rooms are clean. So why only three stars out of five? I have a feeling that this hotel punches, in terms of pricing, a little above its weight. It prides itself of a Bund location, but that is true only under a somewhat generous interpretation of what it means to be on the Bund; it is close to the waterfront, sure, but it is not around the corner from the glitzy world-famous stretch of the Bund - that is a little walk or bus or subway ride away. This Bund location seems to be incorporated into their pricing even though it is only partially justified geographically. That also includes extras - I had some laundry washed and was charged an amount which I would have found expensive in a Western hotel (more than 300 yuan for a few Polos and Paris of trousers) but find outright overpriced in China, even taking into account that this is the most expensive city in the country. So in summary: The hotel is OK but seems to place itself, when it comes to prices, into a world-class category which it doesn’t quite...
Read moreThey call themselves "Riverview hotel on the Bund" - which isn't quite correct. They are just OFF the Bund, but with no views across the river. This is a 3 star hotel, and priced accordingly. But the rooms are very large, the twin beds a large single each, and the daily cleaning efficient. The free water bottles each day are a nice touch. The breakfast is very ordinary and expensive - butt here is a fridge in the room if you want to self-cater. The hotel is a little out of the central vibes, but a very easy walk to the Old Town and the tourist markets of the Gardens.||The beds however, are like rock cement! The hotel kindly gave us extra mattress toppers to soften the blow, and this helped enormously. ||Perhaps reflecting its 3 star rating, most of the reception staff have very limited English - though they can normally call someone to help out.||A hotel to consider if you don't want to pay the top $, but still want a sense of speace...
Read moreThe only thing that worked for this hotel was its location since it’s on the bund. It’s very close to Yu Garden and there is a Starbucks right across the road. |The staff was not helpful at all . They were arrogant and not accommodating. I had requested for milk for kids in the room on chargeable basis but they refused to send even in daytime! Also I was struggling with unpacking of my pram at the concierge along with my kids and no staff member offered any help. It was sealed at the airport and I had to cut through the plastic that was very tightly packed on it and all they did was hand me scissors. I haven’t seen such rude behaviour in any hotel so far!! My son n I had to struggle to get it off. |Never ever to come back to...
