In November, it's my fortieth birthday month. |In anticipation of turning forty, I was staying alone in a hotel to celebrate myself. |I casually mentioned to the butler that it was my birthday and that I was turning forty. Having stayed at the St. Regis Hotel in Bangkok and Shanghai before, I didn't have any special expectations for my birthday. What was special was the situation of celebrating my fortieth birthday alone. With my family busy, no partner, just turning forty, I still wanted to celebrate through a solo trip. ||The check-in was ordinary. The staff first wished me a happy birthday month. "But are you staying alone?" the staff politely asked. So I replied, "Yes, I hope next year I can celebrate with someone else on my birthday month, haha." After my awkwardly smiling, the staff seemed to ponder for a moment.||"Do you mind participating in a champagne event later?" the staff asked, inquiring if I could do a champagne cutting. "I have seen the staff do champagne cuttings in Bangkok before," I said. "How about trying it?" the staff suggested. I didn't know at the time how much consideration and thought this suggestion was.||At 6:30 PM, during the champagne cutting event, something unexpected started for me, who came alone to celebrate my birthday. The butler, as if I were the star of the day, took my hand as soon as we got off the elevator and led me onto the red carpet. By 6:20 PM, a few people sitting on a sofa suddenly gathered around, about forty in total, as soon as it turned 6:30 PM.||My heart started pounding like crazy all of a sudden... Oh my... The staff introduced the meaning of the cutting ceremony and naturally introduced me. "Please welcome Mr. Jung." Suddenly, everyone looked at me as if I were on stage, clapping, making me tremble and wonder what was happening. It was incredibly exhilarating.||Following the instructions for the champagne cutting, there was a "pop!" sound, and then, more than the sound of champagne popping, there was a round of applause. At that moment of applause, the manager smoothly said, "Happy birthday, Mr. Jung." I was so surprised and moved that my legs went weak.||Receiving such a jubilant birthday celebration in my 40 years of life for the first time, especially on the 100th floor, with the applause of 40 people, isn't that amazing? But that wasn't the end of it. The manager handed me a box containing the cut champagne. Inside the box was a note written in Korean, saying "Happy Birthday" for me, a Korean, right in the heart of China. That's St. Regis Hotel for you. That's top-notch hotel service for you.||I returned to my room, tears welling up. I had intended to celebrate my fortieth year alone in a 400-dollar hotel room, but the four moments I experienced at this hotel will be unforgettable memories for the next 40 years of my life. Because this was the first time in 40 years that I had such a touching birthday celebration. Thanks to all of staff, today I had a memorable day that will stay with me for life. And especially thank you, Butler Alice Chen and Audrey staff, for giving me unforgettable memories. ||I went to more than 10 luxury hotels in Shenzhen, but the service I received today was the most unforgettable service. ||Actually I didn't just get the service, it was the moment I learned the service.||Even now, as I return to my room, the emotion...
Read moreThis was a property that I was very exited to stay at, thinking that it would be one of the best experiences. Unfortunately it was fell really short on many levels.
Check in was fast and efficient and I got down to my corner room not long after. The room was sizable and really nicely appointed. There were amazing views of the city from all angles, including the bathroom. However, there was a very strong chemical odor. I settled in nonetheless thinking that I've get used to it. Not the case, as I started started getting lightheaded within 10-15 minutes for doing work at the desk. Reluctantly, I went back up to the desk to ask for another room due to the issue. They were apologetic but not overall concerned about the situation. Disappointingly, they ended up downgrading me to another room. A similar chemical odor was present there too. In comparison to the other room it was hardly noticeable at the time but wasn't something I got used to. The second room showed a significant amount of wear... dirty carpets, a damaged desk, etc (see pics). Cleanliness could be improved. There was an additional smell from the toilet that never subsided either.
The pool was very subpar, as were the related facilities. You couldn't break a sweat in the sauna, even after assistance from staff to help with it.
There was an army of staff members throughout this property so there was always a presence but a genuine happiness and kindness was few and far between. It rather seemed that there were a lot of people on their feet who would prefer not to be.
Dinner at the buffet (Social, if I can remember right) had extensive options but since it wasn't very busy, it seemed like the food had been sitting out for quite awhile. I opted for the a la carte menu there and ordered a Chinese dish. The food was underwhelming and overpriced. Service was comparatively average to what I'd previously experienced throughout at the hotel.
I had to get out to a business meeting so I had asked concierge to help with guiding me how to get there and assisting with setting up a ride. They weren't very knowledgeable or helpful and I ended up having to ask someone local for additional help. No points earned on that one.
I had booked this through an AMEX Fine Hotels deal that included a lot of extras, one being a $100 USD food and beverage credit and another being guaranteed 4PM checkout. I was offered a 2PM checkout but 4PM could not be accommodated. Also, I was told at checkout that some of the restaurants onsite didn't qualify to use that dining credit towards. I had to talk to 3 different people to get that straightened out, with the first two not knowing anything about the AMEX program and the final one providing me with a welcome sheet relating to the offer and guiding on its usage that she said should have been given to me at checkin.
This is a place that I'd highly recommend checking out for the view. Maybe grab a drink at the bar. However, it's really didn't hit the mark as a St Regis property to stay at and wasn't worth the cost. If you take the view away it unfortunately was really not much special in...
Read moreWe stayed in St. Regis Shenzhen for the first time. It was such a wonderful stay. The hotel is so beautiful in the high building over skyline of the Shenzhen city. It located in a convenient location, connected to the big shopping mall and subway.
When we arrived hotel, bellman assisted us with all our luggage. Reception area is on 96th floor, after took a main elevator, then we arrived the main lobby. It was fabulous reception, you could see the whole city from this floor. Receptionists welcomed us with the rose tea and earl grey tea. They didn’t took so long for checking in. They took us to the room right away. The guest's room start from 75th -94th floor which is one of a high hotel in the world. The view was amazing. We could say it was the most beautiful view from the hotel ever. We got an upgrade to the Shenzhen suite, it was a duplex suite, spacious fully furnished. The living room area is downstairs with the big screen TV and a big sofa. Second floor is the bed room area included working area. The bathroom is super big. There was a huge bathtub, and the separated shower room. We love the room, it is beautiful and well decorated. The happy hour for platinum member is also a good one. It is located on 100th floor which is the highest floor. They have various choices of food and drink. We had a great time there. Breakfast is also perfect. It is on 95th floor. Good quality and many choices. The Staff also took care of us so well, they always approached us to asked for any assistance, our glasses never empty because they always filled up without we need to ask for it. Butler service was wonderful, after we got in the room butler came and introduced herself. Her name is Spring. She is really friendly and polite. She also prepared some fruits and some tiny cake for us, it was very delicious. She offered complimentary 3 pcs for pressing, packing - unpacking and also varieties of tea and coffee 24 hours . We had a very fun conversation with her, this made us felt comfortable during our stay. She is not only a butler but she is our assistant. When we needed more extra water, she put in the fridge everyday in the morning. Also, we mentioned we wanted to go to Hong kong, after we check out later on we found a letter told us how to catch to bus from Shenzhen to Hong kong clearly. This is the bespoke service. We really had a good time with her and the butler team. Also other staff they did very good job too, they are really took care of us like their family. They always greeting and had a conversation with us. The pool is a very nice one even it is just an indoor pool. It is big and clean. We had a very good time here.
Thank you very much for all the staff who took care of us. We hope we could visit St.Regis Shenzhen...
