This hotel provides what travellers may expect from a Jinjiang chain inn. The location is a bit hidden along a non-main road and taxis don't always want to go down there, though it isn't really hard once you see it. Several cheap eateries of a very local standard, nearby. (I cannot risk that type of food.) Tasty if your stomach can accept it and your mouth can order in Chinese. Definitely close to fancier places if you want to walk a bit. Near the border crossing. Not a very elegant clientele but not trashy. Luohu area can be a mixed bag, (be aware), but it's basically OK. I find a well-run Jinjiang Inn to be much quieter and a little bit cleaner that the 7 Days chain, which has a branch nearby, (within yelling distance), but that could be a personal view. The Jinjiang Inn 3-star decor attempts to be consistent, discreet and businesslike, in muted tones mostly of silver, grey and white. A little dull. Some cigarette smells. Good wifi. In fact, the large beds are excellent and the soft, big pillows and flat screen TV monitor are worthy of a more expensive room. (Well, if you don't plan it, you will end up paying higher; it's aimed at "Business travellers" and you need to be sure, if you are trying to save, that you are taking a smaller room size, or a less valuable feature.) Hot water supply is good and plenty; thick white towels. They just tend to have not much personality. I was given a very kind reception by a well-trained young woman manager; she saw my needs at once and catered to them. I fear she was probably underpaid for the calibre of work she was able to do.That might be a reason why their 3 star properties seem so drab, when in fact, the facilities are of a very decent quality. There is no 'atmosphere'; I guess they haven't studied this. The rowdier, rougher, gaudy 7 Day Inns have more personality, though it doesn't match mine. The little downstairs in-house snackbar (cheap noodles and won ton, under 20 rmb/ dish) is cute, but sadly TOO cheap; food was prepared too fast, and frozen items may not have been properly cooked. The very young and carefree staff have probably not been taught about sterilizing temperatures for cooked food. I described this issue to the helpful manager. Overall a very comfortable, uneventful stay. However, you can get cheaper and less elegant, or dearer and more interesting; I do wish Jinjiang would look at the issue of, well... attraction? I do NOT mean, girls in flashy Mandarin dresses. I mean the intangible stuff. Note that basic 3-star Jinjiang is predictable, and much less likely to burn your pocket that the flashy OCT chain, where contradictory and confusing policies always try to make you pay more, and they seem to add tinsel instead of real items, while over-charging at the lower end. Their top end seems more reliable in value. I was so disappointed with the Windows on the World OCT (looks exotic in photos, like a shabby railway dormitory inside; no baggage service, no all-day cafe, no car entry, I cancelled my night). Jinjiang at least delivers the...
