Many things were wrong. - they clearly had a problem with air conditioning, since the temperature in the room was always >25° (turning down the AC was useless, it seemed like the temperature was controlled by a central AC). They seemed to know about it because we confronted them about it and didn’t really seem surprised, but still assigned rooms to guests ignoring the problem. We were forced to ask to change our room for one with window at 1:30am because we couldn’t sleep. I believe it’s unacceptable in any kind of facility, especially not in one by Hyatt. - we came back late in the afternoon and they still didn’t make up our room; when we asked why they said “we’re almost at full capacity, they probably forgot” - note that I did put the sign “clean room” on the door. When they finally did, they forgot to replace dirty cups and glasses, coffee capsules and wooden sticks to stir. Still unacceptable considering the high level of the hotel. - on the last day, at around 10am the cleaning service knocked our door insistently asking to clean the room. We were still sleeping and the night before we put the sign “do not disturb” on the door. That was not okay. - we went to the bar at the ground floor: they gave us a menu full of things, but they only truly have coffee or beer. We had a coffee, it tasted horrible (I’m almost sure it was instant coffee). - the room is not really insulated, we could hear the child crying in the room next to us, door slams and chatting in the hall. - the “phone” in the room is a device that apparently is voice controlled, it kept turning on by itself while we were talking to each other or watching videos. It was so annoying that I had to unplug it. - the TV shows a feature to stream wirelessly from your phone but it doesn’t really work with iPhone. I could only manage to share my screen - which is not good quality enough to watch a movie. On the positive side:- the room is simple but nice and clean. I could see that it was a Hyatt facility.- when we asked to change room, the concierge did it immediately even if so late in the night. - there’s a free laundry...
Read moreInteresting concept especially for a Westerner. Chinese hospitality co venture w Hyatt elevates the typical Chinese offering by combining with Hyatt standards. The result is pretty good and price point excellent. Rooms are clean and furnishings new. I got a nicer, bigger room due to my Globalist rank. Nothing like a Jr Suite but bigger enough! Amenities in room good. In general it’s spartan but totally adequate Funny stuff like the “fitness center” an elliptical with no power cord, recumbent bike the same. Some weights in a room that was probably the housekeeping closet. Underwhelming and disappointing as I selected this property because of the advertised fitness center. Oh well, obvs not a thing for the Chinese traveler! Generally very clean otherwise, little to no cigarette smoke throughout, whew. Complimentary breakfast is simple, doesn’t compare with Hong Kong! Staff were so friendly, kind and helpful. Big shout to Eve and Sail who did their best to help this traveler! In general the staff do not speak English. Was surprised that at least 1 person per shift didn’t speak English. Oh well. Clearly we are not target customer which is totally fair and fine. Google translate is your friend. Hotel is in building w gigantic, shiny, pretty and clean shopping mall. Big Starbucks, tea shops, etc. nearby neighborhood has phenomenal cafes. Adjacent to massive marina, mangrove park which is pleasant and pretty In all I would...
Read moreWe booked Urcove as it seemed like a good location between Futian and Nanshan. Reality it is kind of no-man's land as there is nothing around but old buildings and construction in the immediate vicinity. We didn't venture that far so this might be an unfair comment. ||However, it didn't start well. I wrote to ask for an early check in and we didn't get a reply even after we checked out. Pretty poor. ||Check in process took a while and the machines that are available for you to check in and check out didn't work. Again, pretty poor. ||The room is simple and clean. Nothin short of what you'd expect from Hyatt. Size is generous and bed is amazingly comfortable. Toilet is Japanese style and shower is powerful with instant hot water. They also give you four bottles of water and some tea/ coffee. The design is basic. A lick of grey paint and white ceilings. No pictures, no warmth to the room design, just very functional. ||Tried calling the front desk and failed to get anyone to pick up for the first 4-5 calls. We did finally manage a couple hours later but then when the guy said he'd send someone up with a charging cable, another couple hours passed without anyone coming. We had to go down to get it. ||In the end, I expected a 5 star service. It is far from that so if you go in with this expectation, then...
