Hotel Genova — Hotel in Barranquilla

Pictures on the site differ greatly from what you see in person I stayed at the Centro location for one week. My bad experience started from the moment I was given my room. They gave me a room with a broken toilet. As in they were aware it was broken and leaking and gave it to me anyway. There were wet smelly towels gathered around the base of the toilet. They told me they would finish fixing it the following day. I had to find the maid to ask for towels because my room did not have any. The head maid was incredibly rude when I asked for towels. She only wanted to give me one. She allowed me another when I told her my girlfriend was with me. I asked for 2 more (one for the floor of the bathroom because there was no floor mat and one more for my girlfriend because she usually uses one for her body and a seperate one for her hair) and she refused to give me them. She said only one towel allowed per person. The next day the plumber was in and out of my room and did fix the toilet but as the guest I could not relax with people coming in and out of my room. The head maid was again very rude when I (always politely) asked for blankets for the room. She gave them to me but it was out of reluctance and with rolling of her eyes. The maids were incredible inconsistent with times they would clean my room. I tried to make sure I was out of the room between 1030ish to 1pm everydsy and still more often than not the maids still would not have cleaned my room. Sometimes it would be well into the afternoon. There was NO hot water the entire time I was there. I only ate the "free" breakfast one time, and when I asked for a 2nd helping of scrambled eggs they charged me for a meal. My girlfriend didn't even eat breakfast that day, so I asked if her lack of eating would allow me a 2nd helping of eggs free since there were 2 guests in the room and they said no. The pool is not cleaned often and the water had a gross green color to it along with dirt and debris floating amid the green water. The mini bar did not get restocked the entire week I was there. Power outages for long periods happened 3 times while I was there. The people at the front desk were polite. The bellhop was always polite. Room service was pretty good (why have pasta on the cover of your menu but not have any pasta as a food option in the menu?). Those were not enough to outweigh my overall experience. I will not stay here again despite my frequent visits to Barranquilla. I reconmend you to look elsewhere as well because for the price there are...

😊: The hotel was like an oasis amidst a very grim part of town. The receptionist and porter were very helpful and welcoming. There is a pool and outside seating that is a refuge from the chaos outside on the streets. We only stayed one night as we were catching a flight early the next morning. Comfortable bed. I would recommend the hotel.. 😢: The onsite restaurant had very poor food which was very disappointing. The early morning receptionist who could see we had very large suitcases but did not ask for a larger car so at 4.30am in the morning we had the absurd issue of how to fit both my partner and I in the smallest possible taxi with our luggage. No item could be put in the boot. The receptionist appeared to think it was fine that my partner and I could sit on top of each other for a 30 minute ride to the airport. What a disappointment ...|We planned on staying 2 weeks for a family reunion and although the staff was very friendly and tried to accommodate us the hotel is just not up to par|The beds are very low and uncomfortable ,|You need your key to turn on AC so when you leave the Room the AC goes off|I booked 5 rooms , one didn't have toilet paper and I asked left came back many hours later and still no paper. Another room had roaches so we had to switch rooms |The worst part is that they sell day passes to their pool and anyone can come to use the pool.
