Orika del Mar Hotel Boutique — Hotel in Bolívar

Seriously one of the best experiences in my travels around the world, and I have traveled a lot. The owner is native to the island, extremely hospitable, down to earth and overall an amazing guy- along with the employees he chooses to work for Orika. Upon arrival he told us that Orika is our home, and we felt that immediately. Everyone was so kind and helpful, the place is quiet and beautiful with conches, corals and cats. The included breakfast changes daily and it’s so good- reasonably priced and everything is made to order! He also offers extremely reasonable tours to the mangroves, multiple islands, bioluminescent plankton, and snorkeling. There is the bora bora beach club nearby and you can hear the music a little but nothing to where it’s truly ruining your experience, and it’s not all night long either like one of the reviews says. 🙄 on that note I would like to add- for those of you who have never been to the Rosario islands and doing your research before you go, you will see a lot of negative reviews and comments about the quality of rooms, water pressure, electricity, the people, the boat etc. at first this made me hesitant but I took a leap of faith and went with my reservation anyway- these people writing these reviews clearly don’t understand they are on an island, that this isn’t some fancy, corporate owned resort for their pleasure. This is a beautiful island with amazing people that we are lucky to even have the opportunity to experience- not everything will be perfect, sometimes the solar power runs out and you can’t charge your iPhone, sometimes there’s bugs, you might step on a coral and the waters may not be smooth. That’s an island, that’s life, if you cannot handle that I suggest you just do a day trip, and to never write negative reviews for family/ local owned accommodations on an island where people are just trying to live. I am so happy I didn’t listen to the negative reviews of the Rosario islands, and I am so happy I got to experience...

Complessivamente un buon posto, ma ci sono stati numerosi difetti difetti. La spiaggia che si vede in foto davanti all'hotel è completamente diversa. Pressoché assente. Dall'altra parte del molo c'è una spianata di cemento con delle sdraio. Noi non abbiamo mai fatto il bagno davanti all'hotel, ma siamo sempre andati all'unica spiaggia libera dell'isola, a circa 30 minuti a piedi. Motivo per cui a posizione ho dato 3 stelle. Le camere sono ok, con poche pretese. Hanno la zanzariera, assolutamente necessaria. Noi eravamo in una di quelle a bungalow, molto carina. Però tra i muri e il tetto (in paglia/foglie, non so di preciso che materiale fosse) avanzavano diversi cm, la sera era impossibile tenere la luce accesa causa insetti e pipistrelli che entravano. Inoltre, non abbiamo mai ricevuto la chiave perché gli ospiti precedenti si erano dimenticati di restituirla. Abbiamo sempre dovuto lasciare la porta aperta. Ci hanno assicurato che il posto era al sicuro e che non ci sarebbero stati problemi con i nostri oggetti, e così è stato. Il cibo niente di che e decisamente troppo costoso rispetto agli standard colombiani. Consiglio di andare a mangiare a El Pueblo, il paese principale dell'isola. Si mangia benissimo, si spende poco, e si ha anche l'occasione di vedere un po' di vita autentica. In ogni caso, il pesce che troverete da Orika è ottimo e fresco, abbiamo assistito direttamente alla pesca.

Tutto sommato, però, un'ottima esperienza. Il personale assolutamente disponibile per qualsiasi cosa: abbiamo avuto dei problemi con i voli e ci hanno aiutato a riprenotare la camera, a fissare il trasporto per arrivare e, soprattutto, per circa 30€ a testa ci hanno garantito un trasporto privato dall'isola fino all'aeroporto di Cartagena, all'ora che preferivamo. L'hotel ha una bellissima terrazza sul mare in cui abbiamo passato la maggior parte del tempo. Il giorno del nostro arrivo ci hanno offerto un giro gratuito in barca dall'hotel fino alla spiaggia libera, con ritorno compreso mezz'ora dopo(noi abbiamo deciso di tornare a piedi). Al costo di 60000 pesos si può scegliere di fare diverse attività: kayak, snorkeling, gita ai tunnel di mangrovie, gita al plancton luminescente ecc. Noi abbiamo fatto lo snorkeling, che parte alle 10 di mattina e dura circa un paio d'ore. L'hotel fornisce la maschera e ti porta con la barca nei punti migliori per immergersi. Con noi si è immerso anche uno della staff per farci da guida in acqua. Volevamo fare anche il tour per vedere il plancton, ma non è stato fatto a causa delle condizioni meteo che non avrebbero consentito di vederlo per bene. Apprezzabile, quindi, che siano stati onesti con noi piuttosto che portarci comunque alla laguna e farci...

This is a really hard review to write. The hotel and it's staff are wonderful, but the location is horrible. You can't escape the incessant beat of music coming from nearby resorts, passing party boats, and the local's dance hall in the island's interior (which is only 200 meters from Orika). Want to sleep before 3am? Don't come to this island. Having said that, if you've already decided to come to Isla Grande, this is the place to stay. The rooms are comfortable, the food is delicious, the drinks are cold, and the staff is friendly. And there's decent snorkeling right in front of the hotel.
