Really great stay for 6 nights in San Andres at Karinbik! We were Thinking of splitting our time on the island, but we liked the hostel so much we stayed all of our trip here! We stayed in both the six bed dorm and the private room by the dorms. Both were great overall! Highly Recommend as a clean, friendly place to spend your time in San Andres with helpful staff and a decent location for the price. The hostel has really nice decoration and the staff went above And beyond to make our stay amazing!
Pros: -big lockers -nice beds in dorms and private room -close to Main Street to take the bus to other parts of the island -very clean common spaces, fridge cleaned out regularly, swept regularly to keep out the sand, kitchen kept near by staff and veg on top of -Mauricio was covering for his mom during our stay and he was always so attentive. He had great suggestions for things to do, giving directions to all of the attractions, bar/resto recommendations -snorkel sets provided from the hostel for you to use -mini cooler provides if you want to bring cold Drinks and food to the beach or islands -towels changed every two days -plenty of space to hang towels and swim suits -ability to extend your stay for half price so you can shower before A later afternoon flight -close to a cheap super market and even closer to a corner store for buying quick last minute items
Cons: -ants in the kitchen/private room at times. No matter how clean everything was kept, They just kept appearing! -the bunks are first come, first serve and the top ones are quite high! -during our stay, there was some nights where the common areas were quite loud. The rooms are right next to the kitchen and sofa/tv area, So when people congregate in that area in he evenings, you can really hear everything from Your room. Bring your ear plugs! -location is not right in San Andres town, but a bit south. You have to walk about 10-15 Min depending on your pace to get to some bars and restaurants and about 25 min to get to the beach / most popular bars/restaurants -breakfast is available but not really worth it. The hostel provides free coffee, the juice wasn’t fresh, and the ham/cheese with eggs was overall meh for 12,000 COP. Recommend you go to the supermarket and...
Read moreReally the first awful experience I’ve had in 6 months in Colombia. It’s always a shame to make a google review because then the management responds and flips it as if you were the problem - so I’ll try just say as sincerely as possible that the cleaning staff are fantastic other guests are chill however then there’s this man who seems to run the place who has a dementor vibe. Personally I recommend avoiding this place simply because of him.
We reserved for 5 nights and let the property know that we wouldn’t be able to arrive until a day later because I had gotten sick - they refused to let us change the booking to just pay for nights we’d be there or offer some sort of compromise or understanding. So we paid in full for a night we weren’t there and had let the property know 48hrs in advance. Anyway we were understanding and let it go.
Upon arrival a seemingly nice offer from the receptionist - we were offered to rent a moto for $240,000 COP for 3 days (a deal because we would rent for 3 days) this seemed cool. However, upon paying this man (acting owner) refused to grant the deal we were literally just told by the reception. Like directly in front of him. He couldn’t look at us in the eye and he refused to communicate in Spanish or English.
Really it wasn’t about the money just the sheer cold energy that we didn’t vibe with. So unnecessary and uncomfortable to be treated like that. If you do decide to stay here you’ll likely have the chance to deal with this man and you can form your own opinion. If he isn’t the owner surely acts like he owns the place.
Regardless of the response of the hostel and if or how they attempt to discredit our experience I want you to have a fantastic time on San Andres - one of my favorite places I’ve visited here and therefore just helping other travelers save time and find somewhere where you can deal with people who are warm and sweet and understanding. Highly recommend San Luis beach, Reggae Roots bar and Sea Pride scuba - incredible spots and great people. Photos attached
Sounds like the true owner lives in Medellín and isn’t on site to manage situations - this is just what we dealt with...
Read moreI stayed with my boyfriend here for a week. Good hostel, clean, around 20 minutes walking distance for city center, restaurants, beach. The owners help you with anything you need, but... (there is always a but) don’t picture the regular normal hostel where you can laugh and play music; It’s a VERY quiet hostel where you have to be very careful with the tone of your voice and you can’t be loud after 10. | One night we were having dinner with a group of Brazilian, we were laughing, but it was only for 5 minutes, and the owner of the hostel went to tell us to please be quiet because there was a family sleeping. I had a different concept of a hostel, specially in the Caribbean, a hostel is a place for sharing, make friends, create connections, talk, have some drinks; the hostel doesn’t have a range of age, so you can find people from 18 or less, to 70. | When a group of young people is in the same place of a family with adults who need to go to bed early, then is when the problem starts; the hostel should specify the target they are trying to aim, the can’t have families and youth together, or is either a hostel, or a guest house, hotel, etc. We got upset because we were asked to be quiet when we were only laughing for no more than five minutes, sharing stories, making friends, the owner was clearly upset. | You can read in one of the rules that you can’t be loud after ten, but for a hostel with not curfew time, it’s a little bit contradictory to have a time to be quiet, but no time to get back at night. We could hear people drunk at night coming back from a party been very loud and we didn’t say anything. | My advice is to organize what the hostel is for, what’s the type of people or age you are willing to accept, because you can’t have both, the needs are different in all ages. | It’s a nice hostel, very clean, but I wouldn’t recommend it for young people who want to meet other travelers. I felt like I was under...
