After a long journey from bogota, we searched late in the evening for a hotel or hostel to stay in san Gil. We stumbled across this place and was greeted by a lovely lady who offered us a reduced price for a triple room with fan and ensuite. The price of 20,000 each was the same as dorms in the local area. After checking in, the lady told us about the many activities they offer. She told us again when we went out to for food and again on our return. My friend did book paragliding with them for the same price when she shopped around but the constant asking was a bit much. The room was lovely. Comfy beds. The bathroom is simply a walled room with no roof so it makes for an awkward visit when all your friends are in the room too! My main gripe is the security of this place. The room is given a lock and key. You give the key to reception when you go out. When we left our bags when we checked out, they put them in a closet under the stairs. Either of these are 2 possible answers why we had money taken from us. They did not take all our money, just some. I had $140 dollars and they took 40. My friend had 500,000 pesos and they took 100,000. All very subtle to no one asks questions. Please lock your stuff up while in the room and perhaps take the key with you rather than give to reception. Also, do not keep money in your bag that they say they will look after after you have checked out. I was not going to do this review, I emailed them instead to which they replied with an apology but said they talked to staff and no one took it. I just wanted to let you know my experience so you guys...
Read moreBasic accomodations. Very clean and nicely decorated. Each room has private bathroom with hot shower and T.V. The reception is next to a living room and there is a terrace. The hotel is located on the second floor. The location is perferct since it is right in front of an ATM/Bank (Banco Popular) also it is half a block away from the main plaza, the market, a nice sit in bakery/coffee shop. Also it is 2 blocks away from the local bus terminal that takes you to areas sorrounding San Gil/Santander such as Chicamocha Canyon. Also you can buy any day tours/adventure sports at the main reception. The owner is nice. ||* Bus from Bogota or other cities will leave you at another bus terminal which is different from the one that is near the hostal/main plaza. Taxi prices within San Gil have a standard rate...
Read moreI am not kidding. I was stole at this hotel. I Left my wallet at the hotel while the worker knew we would be out for the day. When I came, I saw some bills inside the wallet...what happened? Someone took USD$300 and left some more dollar bills. (I asumme to not letting us realize at that moment they stole my money). I realize when we were too far from there, and it was the only place were I left my wallet. I had 3 $100 bills in a roll, and left only one, plus $200 on $20 bill. :(:(||Also, they sell tickets for different activities like rafting, horse back riding, and more, for the double you pay directly where the...
