We wanted to like it, we really did. You should know and u sweat and what you are getting yourself into when you rent this home. We were supposed to be in the home 1 month. We left as early as we could based on availability of our next location. The house is in a very noisy neighborhood. For almost the entire stay we were woken up by very loud music starting at 5:30am until 2am plus, chained up dogs barking constantly, roosters 24 hours a day. I asked the host for help with the music but basically she said she didn’t want to cause problems in the neighborhood and that we would have to deal with it. Huh? She herself even said it was loud! The house hasn’t been maintained in quite some time. We had raw sewage coming up from the upstairs toilet which she did fix, but not the smell which again “you just have to deal with it”. When she did come to fix the toilet, she came into the house with a repair person without warning to us and didn’t tell us until a few days later. The kitchen has tile countertops but the grout in between is in horrible shape with a good deal of it missing and what’s left has a thick black grime I had to clean off. Linens and towels are about 10+ years old and threadbare. There is a cockroach infestation because they decided to chew on my foot. I understand bugs because we’ve lived all over the world, but roaches don’t bite unless there is an infestation. The pool was a nice feature but there is a large hole for the skimmer that I fell into and hurt my leg pretty badly. My husband made a cover for it so it wouldn’t happen to anyone else. When I told Doris all of my concerns, her response was “this is the way it’s always been and this is the way it will stay”. WOW. This is the first house I’ve ever stayed at that I cannot, in good conscience ever recommend. Also, I’ve noticed that at least 3 reviews on here are from neighbors which is hardly an accurate representation of the house....
Read moreWe had a wonderful 4-night stay at Casa Magdalena – a charming two-story wooden house that immediately made us feel at home.
We especially enjoyed the refreshing swimming pool, the spacious and well-equipped kitchen, and the unforgettable moment when a sloth paid us a visit by the pool on our last day.
The location is ideal – within walking distance to a large supermarket, downtown, and the beach. We had a car, which we parked right next to the house, and used Casa Magdalena as our base to explore the area. In less than 30 minutes, we reached the serene Puerto Vargas National Park, Puerto Viejo, Cocles, and Punta Uva. We also did a cacao tour just 15 minutes away and visited nearby waterfalls.
We highly recommend Casa Magdalena to anyone looking for a blend of privacy, adventure, local charm, and convenience.

Unfortunately, no window panes in the Windows.. .be prepared for creatures inside (bats, geckos). The humidity makes the area HOT (We were here in October and November)...so enjoy the pool. A bit off the beaten path, and not easy to find the fist time...but still less than a fifteen minute walk to the...
