Horrible! Our room had a window facing the deck on which the owner and her friends partied from late afternoon until the wee small hours. The music and conversation was so loud we thought there was a bar on the property!||There was NO refrigerator. There was NO hot water. The beds felt like they were made out of thinly covered river rock with one thin sheet and no blankets. So while we stayed awake all night we also froze. Anyone who says this is the nicest place in Tortuguero hasn't been to Pachira Lodge (see my note below on how we ended up there.)||The code violations in this place were scary. There was some kind of small heater attached to the shower head by nothing but bare wires and wire caps. Electrocution is just a shower head adjustment away if you accidentally touch the wires while wet or if the wires touch the shower head and you touch it too. ||The owner had the most negative attitude I have ever experienced staying anywhere. I asked if she had some water because we had been in transit over 6 hours and even though she was standing in a kitchen with a pitcher of water on the table the answer was NO! The following morning when we told her there was NO hot water in the sink or the shower she blew it off saying she would "try to get someone" to fix it. It was Sunday morning. Ha ha. We ended up leaving an hour later and the woman did credit us our second night. But the hassle of having to repack and find another place (on a Sunday morning during high season) was another stressor on top of a terrible 24 hours. Luckily I found Pachira Lodge (a boat ride away) and it was heaven, so...
Read moreWe've travelled several places around Costa Rica, and this is one of our favorite places we've stayed. Great location, directly on the water and on the main street as well, making it easy to find and everything super easy to get to. Restaurants, the beach, and the main boat docks are all only a couple minutes walk. And being at the end of the street, it doesn't get too loud either - the perfect balance. The rooms are clean and comfortable, and we always felt very safe. The A/C's work great, and hot showers are dependable. Plus, being right on the water the view is wonderful and they have a little bar area on their patio that serves good cocktails and cold beers. The family that runs it is incredibly helpful and they put us in touch with some great tour operators as well. Highly recommend staying here and would definitely...
Read moreI was staying in Sunset Rooms for 2 nights in December. The room was clean, more than big enough for us two and the terrace offers a beautiful view for the sunset with nice color reflections on the water. For the really economic price we paid, I expected way simpler. Especially on really remote area like Tortuguero. The owner Marcia was an excellent host and helped us to find the tours we wanted to do, also for a very economic price. In the mornings they offer coffee for free (and made tea on request while our stay for another lady, that didn't drink coffee) which is a big plus for coffein junkies like me. Don't understand the two bad comments here. Probably those people are not used to remote tropic rain forest and/or don't even...
