Hidden midway up the Monteverde mountainscape lies the picturesque Mountain Eco House. This newly constructed two bedroom mountain villa overlooks thousands of acres of serene Costa Rican wilderness that never ceases to amaze.
Upon arriving at the residence, we were greeted by our host Harry, his loving wife, and their two small children. We passed multiple hummingbirds and butterflies as Harry walked us down the short flower lined walkway to the residence. The sun was beginning to set and we felt as if we were living in a dream.
To say our stay was perfect would be an understatement. We awoke to cinematic sunrises and singing birds each morning and drifted off into slumber to crickets and the river flowing peacefully down in the valley. We dined each evening on the rooftop balcony taking in a sunset that seemed increasing more beautiful with each passing day.
For the entirety of our trip, Harry remained attentive of any needs we had, and went out of his was to ensure our stay was as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. On our first night we had made a comment about not having limes for our gin and tonics. But soon after there was a knock on the door and upon opening it, there was Harry, limes in hand!
The Mountain Eco House is also under a half hour drive of seemingly all of the major attractions in Monteverde. Whether you would like to join a coffee or chocolate tour, zipline through the rainforest, hike across hanging bridges over the lush Monteverde canopy, interact with butterflies and hummingbirds, ride horses, bathe in a thermal pool, or just sit and read a book while taking in the Costa Rican countryside... The Eco Mountain House will be perfect for you!
I would definitely recommend visiting the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve as out of all the reserves it's the cheapest and least full of tourists! Or if you're unsure of what to do in the area, Harry is extremely knowledgeable and is always happy to share his wealth of experience with you.
During our two week trip traveling throughout Costa Rica, our stay with Harry was not only the most memorable, but also the part that we enjoyed the most. As I sit here writing this post from a beach chair overlooking the Ocean in Samara, I can't help but miss my stay with Harry and look forward to seeing him...
Read moreI am currently sitting on the balcony of our Eco Dome as I write this review. Before reading further BOOK THIS PLACE!
This home is situated right off the side of the valley. There is a small river to your west? You can hear the river from your dome. You can see it from your balcony. There is a large valley to overlook from your view and dome. I’ve seen large eagles, toucans, humming birds, and birds I don’t even know what they are. You can really take in the beauty of the area by sitting on your balcony at sunset.
Upon arriving I was greeted by humming birds, as soon as I stepped out of my car I saw a humming bird. The owner has been reclaiming the area, planting trees, flowers, shrubs, the plan is to reforest the valley! Because of their diligent efforts there are plenty of butterflies, hummingbirds and pollinators around the area. In a few years they’re hoping to have a entrance to the dome areas encapsulated with hummingbird attracting plants, will be like walking through a tunnel of beauty and life.
The dome itself is EXCELLENT. It is a two person dome, no TV! It is an awesome place to disengage from the internet and be with beauty, though you do have good wifi from your domes.
Everything in the dome has intention and purpose. These domes felt like the “Apple” of hospitality as in everything is clean, modern and has efficient purpose. From the temperature setting bed light, to the efficient hands free soap dispenser. Everything feels perfect! The domes are warm during the day but very comfortable at night. The valley creates an excellent natural breeze, it’s close to 30 degrees out at the moment but under a small shade tree with the breeze I feel like a cool king.
The town is 8-10 minutes away with tons of food choices and grocery. Santa Elena reserve is 20 minutes, Monte Verde Cloud forest is 25 minutes.
We did a nature walk at night 5 minutes from home by car where we saw snakes, sleeping toucans, possums, spiders.
Really cool area and home. Can’t wait to see it in the future with the...
Read moreThe Eco Domes are a once in a lifetime experience for anyone visiting Monteverde. Imagine falling asleep watching the sunset slowly dwindling out your window. Waking up to the sound of parakeets, while drinking fresh brewed local Monteverde coffee.
My girlfriend and I stayed during the green season, so we fell asleep to the sounds of rain every night ❤️ and the hot coffee was extra pleasant.
Each dome comes with a kitchen, bathroom, air conditioning, and a breathtaking view that will make your whole trip to Costa Rica worthwhile.
Not only are the domes a dream, but the host, Harry, is a saint. These domes are part of his Eco-Project, his personal effort to protect Costa Rica’s delicate environment. Harry puts a percentage of the profits towards reforesting the land the domes sit upon.
While we stayed, Harry helped us in every way imaginable. From local recommendations, to booking us tickets and tours, to even the smallest detail of helping call a taxi - if you stay with Harry, you are in...
