This place was awesome! I regret calling them directly to book a room because now I can't leave a review on hotel websites to give them the props they deserve.
The pros: This place is very quiet and peaceful. At night all you can hear is the sound of crickets and cows softly munching on the grass in a properly next door. It's very much located in a countryside setting.
The first night in Monteverde, my girlfriend and I stayed in the town center and it was awful. Loud music playing at night, we couldn't go sleep, even with earplugs on. I asked a few taxi drivers about the noise and they all said the same thing, it's noisy in and around the town center.
I highly recommend you stay away from the town center unless you want to stay up late and live the nightlife.
This place was recently opened in March of 2016, so everything about it is fairly new. The place looks great, everything is made of wood.
They also have yellow lights! This is a minor detail, but I don't like the blue harsh office type lights that all other hotels we stayed at had. The yellow lights really gave it a nice and cozy feel rather than that garage like feel from bright white lights.
The bathroom was way better than other hotels we stayed at. The sink actually had warm water. Again, many of the other (cheaper) hotels we stayed at did not have hot water in the sink. I was surprised by bathtub itself since it was pretty large and elegant; it seemed like something you would find in a more upscale hotel in the USA.
There's a ton more pros that I could write about, but then the review would be really long.
Cons: Spotty wifi. The wifi only worked the first day we arrived and then stopped working. However, the wifi inside the reception building works and if you ask the receptionist, Ernesto, I'm sure he will glad to help you connect to the internet. This was a minor issue for me and my girlfriend since we came to enjoy the countryside and not be glued on our electronic devices. The place does have cable TV, so that helps.
Cost of traveling to and from the hotel. Since it's 15 minutes away from the town center, we had to grab a taxi. The taxi charge 4,000 colones as of the time of this writing, which is about $7.25 US dollars. So about $15 a day.
Also, a lot of the tours don't pass through this hotel since it's kinda out of the way. This means having to grab a taxi to go to the town center or another hotel where the tour transport can pick you up. This place was amazing and the most comfortable place we stayed at, the taxi costs are completely worth it.
Final words: Stay here if you are looking for a beautiful, comfortable, countryside experience and don't mind the extra expenses that come with having to take a taxi into the...
Read moreWe rented two rooms at this lodge. The hotel property is very average. Monte Verde roads are all challenging, so it was fine that this hotel is a little out of the way. Rooms are clean, but facilities are very old. The only real positives are that the breakfasts are excellent and that the staff are mostly friendly. ||Our view out our balcony looked at a rusty tin-roofed building. Neighbor dogs start barking around 5:00 am. The property is run down and not attractive. ||The topper for the stay was when we woke up (on purpose) at 5:00 am for a 6:00 morning tour of a cloud forest on our second day of a three night stay. After the tour, we came back to the hotel after lunch for a nap. We opened the door and had no room service. Our dirty dishes and full trash bin were still there. An hour later, we were woken up to be asked why we haven't checked out yet. This is a pretty alarming experience on a family vacation in a very remote area of a foreign country. After 15 minutes of checking how to contact our travel agent to figure out where the problem was, the same employee came back and told us it was their mistake and walked off back to reception leaving us to digest that wonderful experience with no apologies, but at least we could better understand why we would be spending our last day here in a filthy room. The only real good thing about this hotel is that the best restaurant (Kapi Kapi) in Costa Rica is practically within walking distance. I would skip the hotel and just drive to the restaurant from a...
Read moreWe were very impressed with the Lodge. We had 2 rooms #7 and #8. We had a huuuge porch that overlooked the gardens and we could see the distance scenery. We were failry remote and a walk along the road didn't take us to anything. We had to call an uber or a cab. Only a 3000 Colones into town. About $5.00 for teh 4 of us. Bathrooms were nice, c;lean and towels were replenished daily. A little uncomfortable seating on the porch, but we made it comfortable as we bolstered ourselves with some bed pillows. Beds were comfortable. Meals were decent and very reasonable. We ate breakfast outside on the porch and dinners in their upstairs dining area. The best part was the staff. Wendy and Phillippe were excellent. Philippe noticed a need for another chaor on the porch and brought one up without being asked. Wendy was always going beyond what was expected. She booked tours for us. She had information for us that we needed and if she didn't know, she found out. There was NOTHING we asked for that she didn't perform 100%. The owner of the Lodge is very, very lucky to have her. I know most travel information says you don't have to tip. I disagree. If you go, give the staff a BIG tip!! It will be...
