Amalú Monteverde — Hotel in Sierra

If you’re reading these reviews because you’re unsure about where to stay, just book it, I promise you will not regret it. I recently stayed at Amalú for a few nights, and it is without question the best place I have ever stayed and I’ve been many places. This property truly has every amenity covered, and the views are absolutely spectacular. The owners and staff have thought of everything, from the smallest details to generous touches that make you feel completely at home. The complimentary food and drinks provided in the room for breakfast and snacking were such a thoughtful gesture, and it’s clear that guest comfort is their highest priority.

I arrived after a very long and difficult day of travel, late at night, exhausted and shaken after getting lost on the way. When I called for help, the concierge, Aaron, kindly talked me through the final portion of the drive and kept me calm as I navigated an unfamiliar area in the dark. When I finally arrived, owners Andres and Mariela, along with Aaron, were waiting to greet me with the warmest hospitality. Aaron took the time to unpack my car, carry my luggage and show me around the cabin and all of its amenities, instantly making me feel safe and cared for. He even arranged activities for the next morning so I could relax and settle in without any stress. When it began to rain, I received a message from Aaron, on behalf of Andres and Mariela, offering to deliver me dinner since I didn’t feel up to driving again. Their kindness and thoughtfulness that evening will stay with me for a long time.

As for the cabin itself, words alone cannot do it justice. The glass cabin is surrounded by lush greenery, and every window opens to a breathtaking view of the forest. Waking up each morning to that view felt like a dream, soft light filtering through the trees and endless green stretching in every direction. The privacy is unmatched, I couldn’t see any other cabins from mine, which made it feel like a true sanctuary. The bed was large and incredibly comfortable, and the hot tub and viewing net became my favourite spots to unwind and take in the fresh air. The kitchen was perfectly equipped with everything you could possibly need, so much so that you could happily spend your entire stay without ever leaving. Even the shower had a stunning view and excellent water pressure, every detail was perfect.

The projector in the cabin was another unexpected highlight, it turned the space into a private cinema. Watching a film there at night, surrounded by the forest and rain, felt like the most luxurious movie theatre imaginable.

The property also features an observation deck and a “stairway to heaven” with a view that genuinely took my breath away. Every element of the stay was five-star, yet it never felt impersonal or overly formal. The team made me feel like a VIP guest from start to finish, balancing luxury with genuine warmth and care in a way that’s truly rare to find.

Amalú is the definition of paradise. The combination of beautiful design, serene nature, and genuine hospitality makes it a truly special place. I cannot speak highly enough of this experience, and I have already planned my return.

Above and Beyond Hospitality in a Stunning Setting!

We recently spent two nights at Amalú Monteverde and were absolutely blown away by our stay. We booked the A-Frame with a jacuzzi, and it was incredibly spacious for our family, offering plenty of room to relax. The two bedrooms provided stunning views, making waking up each morning a delight.

What truly set this property apart, however, was the exceptional hospitality. The host and staff go genuinely above and beyond to make you feel welcome and comfortable. We've travelled extensively and stayed in many nice hotels, but Amalú Monteverde truly surprised us. From the thoughtful welcome gifts upon arrival to finding essentials like eggs and milk already stocked in the fridge – seriously, how many places offer that level of care? It was such a wonderful touch.

Our evenings were idyllic. We loved lighting the fire, putting on some vinyl records from their collection, playing games as a family, and relaxing in the jacuzzi. It created such a cozy and memorable atmosphere. Honestly, our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer than two nights – you really won't want to leave once you check in!

Location-wise, it's perfectly situated for exploring all the activities and attractions Monteverde has to offer.

One small tip for future guests who are driving: be aware that the main access roads to the property are gravel. This has nothing to do with Amalú Monteverde itself, it's just the nature of the roads in the area, but it can make driving, particularly after dark, a bit more challenging. Just factor in a little extra time or caution if arriving late.

Despite the roads (which are common in the region), this place is a true gem. We cannot recommend Amalú Monteverde highly enough for its space, beauty, comfort, and truly outstanding service. We'd return in...

My girlfriend and I had an amazing time at Amalú in Monteverde, Costa Rica. Words can hardly express how rejuvenating this experience was for us. From the moment we stepped onto the property (we had the pleasure of staying in all three cabins), it was evident that a tremendous amount of love had been poured into every detail. The design of each house seamlessly integrates with nature, showcasing the owners' dedicated commitment to creating a truly exceptional experience.

Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised by the thoughtful touches that awaited us in each cabin - from a stocked kitchen with cereal, milk, wine, and eggs to thoughtful amenities like a sleeping gown, sleep mask, and shampoo. It's clear that the Amalú team has thought of everything to ensure guests receive the full Amalú treatment.

One of the highlights of our stay was enjoying a jacuzzi night surrounded by the enchanting cloud forest sounds of crickets. Starting a chimney fire and spending quality time away from the pressures of city life was truly magical. For those who enjoy a movie night, Amalú has you covered with a spacious movie projector setup and complimentary popcorn.

Customer service is paramount for us, and Andres and Michael, the hosts, exceeded our expectations. Their warmth and attention to detail added an extra layer of comfort to our stay.
